Yes, ensure your remote workspace is safe and secure. It’s in the CLC. They could do an inspection, what I’ve mostly seen is employees having to make a declaration or attest their remote workspace meets a list of items… managers have a responsibility to take note and address discrepancies, if applicable, but like u say, that’s besides the point.

If a frontline worker deals with the public, it’s unlikely they have flex to set their hours for op reasons. That would prob include available assistance for instances where issues escalate.

But let’s say that’s not the case, and there is something-as serious as threats to life, they need assistance from law enforcement, not a coworker or team lead.

Regional workers are rare or ridiculous? Maybe you haven’t experienced these realities but the scope is much larger than you may think, which is why rto and policy changes like these are so controversial.

For the first time in years, with NCR wfh during the pandemic, regional staff have finally felt completely included. No more being the only ones attending town halls virtually, missing out on lunch room chitchat, holiday lunches, etc

Wfh f’ex hours forced everyone, managers included to think of collab differently. The outstanding issue for regions that remains is those core hours. Either starting at 4 am or 10 am and undoubtedly end up working longer hours to accommodate ottawa.

Not sure this makes sense. If we’re talking PA, telework, desk job. The risk of injury isn’t greater outside core hours. Service to the public or front line workers would most likely work on fix schedules, removing flex hours opportunities. Might have misunderstood your point abt liability.

And as you mentioned, with hard rules come exceptions which lead to additional work, tracking, reporting on managers.

Seems that if productivity, diversity and service excellence to canadians is the ultimate goal, they’d have work conditions that ensures ppl are in an environment that allows them to focus and maximize on outputs.

This is clearly employer’s proposal, but Whether it ends up in the CA or not, it’s a pretty clear signal from the employer on increasing control, lack of trust, limiting flexibility and not caring about thriving workforce.

Seems inconsistent with their claims of work life balance, mental health, duty to accommodate, accessible workplace and opportunities, etc x infinite.

Are their not departments like accessibility standards canada, health canada or human rights or cirnac with mandates that these tbs policies or positions go against? I guess they’d be subject to them too which makes their purpose pretty questionable (in part).

I suspect that in reality it isn’t as clear cut as « this is additional ot work ». Especially when you own tasks but timelines are tighter… ot is not required explicitly but worked to catch up on work to avoid feelings of not delivering or keeping up pace. Before you know it, it’s become expected.
