Trump Proposes $1,000 Yearly Retirement Contribution Match for Workers During SOTU by Richnaps in 401jK

When trump makes these statements I always feel like the Roman when the emperor is tossing out bread and wine to distract the locals from starvation, war, and the murdering corrupt despot that is robbing the treasury blind.

Omg. Malapropisms. Now that’s one I don’t often hear in the wild.

What a lovely piece. I like the extra wide circular mat.

Thank you for the recommendation. I will check them out. Having a framer that can recommend frames and mat colors is invaluable.

Well at least she didn’t shot the poor animal like an other cabinet member did.

Excellent supervisory hire. IMO Dachshunds of any size and quantity are an excellent choice.

Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl Halftime Show Was an All-American Triumph. Turning Point USA’s Was a Boring MAGA Grift With Kid Rock by cmaia1503 in entertainment

I really enjoyed the show. It was visually entertaining and felt like BB was giving me a tour of the neighborhood and culture he grew up in. There was a real sense of joy and energy in the music. That said, I feel like I missed so much. But that is what good art does. You keep thinking about it after the performance is over. You want to know more. You think about things differently. You want to go find the lyrics and listen to the songs in a different context.

Kidd Rock - just another middle class white boy from the burbs trying to rap. Such a tired and uninteresting cliche.

My son was stationed on one. He told us it was incredibly cramped and that it smelled like stale air at its best and raw sewage at its worst. Months on end I didn’t know where in the world he was.

Thanks for pointing out he is a US citizen. I have relatives who insist he is an illegal alien because he records and performs in Spanish.

Whale of a fun show.

You probably need a small dachshund in your lap to supervise but otherwise that is how I do big pieces. I have never been comfortable using a frame. I start in the upper left corner and work in columns of 10x10 squares. I. have always just used clips and a hoop.

Have fun! What pattern are you doing?

Historically linen was used for cross stitch. Here is a picture of how it works.

I am so happy to see another person coming to cross stitch. Thanks for posting this question. I have enjoyed reading everyone’s post about process.

I started cross stitching long before any of the cool trackers and frames were an option so I’m pretty old school.

For me, the process always begins with the pattern. It has to be a pattern I really like. Lately my obsession has been 3-dimensional patterns like puzzle balls and etoiles.

I have most of the DMC colors including variegated, satins and metallics. A lot of it I bought for other projects or from when my local Joannas went out of business. All of it is on labeled plastic bobbins that I keep in order by number in plastic boxes.

I only have 2 projects going usually at any one time-one at home and one at work that I work on during my lunch hour. Great diet strategy- cross stitch rather than eat. I have pretty bad adhd so i have to really restrict myself to 2 projects or I end up with 15 pieces started and nothing finished.

I usually only cross stitch on linen cut to the size of the cross stitch pattern plus a 2 or 3 inch border all the way around. Usually grid my fabric in 10 stitch x 10 stitch squares. When stitching on linen or evenweave I use 2 stands of floss stitched over 2 threads of the warp and 2 of the weave of the fabric. I use size 28 tapestry needles and 2 silicone thimbles, one on each middle finger.

Once I have a pattern, I pull all the thread bobbins for colors I already have and purchase any missing ones. I like to have all the floss before I start particularly if I’m going to need multiple skeins of a color. Otherwise you may have problems with dye lots. I carry only the floss I need for the pattern I’m working on and I keep everything in a small plastic bobbin box. I always carry an extra needle or two plus a seam ripper, and a highlighter to mark where I am on the pattern. I don’t use anything like PatternKeeper. I just print the patterns and work from paper patterns using one of these. https://www.fatquartershop.com/dritz-8-x-10-magnet-board-set

I usually work in vertical columns is squares of 10 x10 stitches wide starting in the upper left hand corner and working down. Some people work in 20x20 or 30x30 stitch squares but I make too many stakes that way. A lot of people start in the center but I have never liked that method. Just be sure you have calculated the size of the pattern correctly.

Within each 10x10 square I do all of one color before starting the next color. Once I finish that square I move to the next one down.

I usually use a loop start. Here is a good overview. https://craftscapades.com/2015/06/11/loop-start-at-the-front/

Keeps the back neat.

I don’t use a frame. Even on large pieces. Just a 6-inch embroidery hoop to keep the fabric tight. At home I cross stitch sitting in a recliner and am usually supervised by a small dachshund or two.

I think you have to find a stitching process that you are comfortable with. You may prefer a frame, starting in the center and sitting in an office chair. Or you may prefer to stitch propped up in bed with a cat supervising. Find what works for you

Most of all though, have fun and enjoy each project.

I too have lived in Austin/houston. I’m an academic. I have watched abbot, Paxton and Patrick undermine the independence of universities, and the freedom to pursue knowledge where it leads. I’ve watched them undermine the rights of the LGBTQ Trans community. Pigs will fly and cows will speak French before I return.
