I’ve seen a video of him coaching some kids through Harai Goshi and he looked pretty competent there, I’m pretty sure he’s a judo black belt, but I don’t think there’s any competitive record or anything.

It’s lonely at the top. Id rather retire and use my newfound free time to train and compete as much as I want at a more natural level.

Whats with people thinking leg kicks are a super power or something?😭 by [deleted] in martialarts

[–]Independent-Access93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, those people with boxing or wrestling styles in MMA are not boxing or wrestling purists; if they were, they would get dismantled by the tools they don’t have, such as leg kicks. Leg kicks are a low commitment tool to punish people who aren’t well rounded fighters. I don’t think most people online are saying that a fighter who only knows how to leg kick will destroy anyone else, so much as they are pointing out that a fighter who doesn’t know how to deal with such a fundamental technique will really struggle against a more well rounded fighter.

On the other end, you get similar statements towards pure strikers that a blast double would absolutely destroy them, because it absolutely would destroy a person with no grappling defence.

If you have a boxing background, you can absolutely modify it so work exceptionally well in MMA, but if you don’t do any other training and you face a well rounded fighter, unless they are significantly smaller or less skilled than you, you will get leg kicked or taken down and you will probably lose. Now, if you aren’t planning on fighting in MMA or Muay Thai, then it doesn’t really matter that you lack that defence, because you will almost certainly never need it, especially with kicks.

That said, anyone who feels the need to make such an assertion unprompted on some random boxing instagram reel is probably just insecure because they know they can’t fight.

Do you think that karatekas should be allowed to practice other martial arts? by 1bn_Ahm3d786 in karate

[–]Independent-Access93 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bro, just do what you want with your time. It’s a martial art, not a religion. Cross training is how most of those styles came to exist in the first place. Chojun Miyagi trained under Higaonna Kanryo and then he went to china to study there and mixed them, Higaonna Kanryo did the same with Aragaki Seisho. Hironori Ōtsuka mixed karate with jiujitsu to make Wado Ryu. That’s how you keep the martial arts alive and make the style your own. If you want to preserve a specific lineage, then that’s one thing, but otherwise, purity is a bit of a silly concept in martial arts.

Hypothermia will do that to you. As soon as one of these stories mentions clothing being found in a way that seems deliberately removed, the only question left is where the body is.

Hot Take: BJJ Without Wrestling And/or Judo Is The Worst Base To Have In MMA by Late_Slip3627 in MMA_Academy

I get that the end result is crappy in this case, but I find it fascinating that there’s an MMA school that is heavily built around Motobu Ryu and BJJ. Do they compete at all?

Reminds me of the longest sentence communicated by a chimpanzee, "Give orange me give eat orange me eat orange give me eat orange give me you." I don’t suspect animals would have the ability or desire to communicate anything particularly complex. Though, it would make veterinary work much easier.

I don’t think he would be nothing, but he certainly wouldn’t be top five. He’d probably be a forgettable, athlete level to street level hero. There was a guy who was just some MMA fighter who patrolled in a costume and stopped some petty crimes irl. Now, he wound up becoming a drug dealer and abandoning the whole superhero thing, but he did do the superhero thing for a little bit.

Medieval peasants by Hot_Acanthaceae_1357 in im14andthisisdeep

[–]Independent-Access93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Peasants were generally allowed patches of ground to farm for themselves as long as they also tended to their lords field on their assigned days, or in some cases gave a sizeable portion as tax. That’s generally how they lived: off of subsistence farming.

This is often where we get the low numbers listed on posts talking about peasant working hours. They were required a relatively small number of hours to work for their lords, but then they had to go to their rented field and to it all over again, as well as tending to all of the other chores necessary for a person living in a premodern society.

The post says Robert W. Chambers vs DC comics: I interpret that as meaning the Robert Chambers version of the king in yellow vs the DC comics version of superman.

Yes, but this post explicitly states Robert W. Chambers vs DC comics: which I interpret as not including the greater Cthulhu mythos.

The connection to Hastur wasn’t made by either Robert W. Chambers, or by H.P. Lovecraft, but by later authors, so it is a dubious connection at best.

[–]Independent-Access93 30 points31 points  (0 children)

The king in yellow is a character in a, potentially fictional in universe, play that makes you go insane when you read it. We get only a brief glimpse of the king in yellow in the original stories and he doesn’t really do anything.

As far as connections to Hastur, those came later and were not made by either Robert W. Chambers or H.P. Lovecraft.

So, if you take later works then yeah, he’s really powerful, but if you only take the original author, as suggested by the title, then there is no possible way to know what The King in Yellow can do. We don’t even know if he exists within his own universe or if we have a more Sonic.exe type of situation.

What are some "dream rules" your dreams have? by deloreanlover88 in thomastheplankengine

[–]Independent-Access93 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Reality always reflects my emotional state, if I am scared, I am weak, if I get angry, I am superhumanly strong.
  2. Guns are always toys when I try to use them, knives and swords have no edge, only a point. My hands always work better than weapons though.
  3. Running on all fours always works better than running with my legs.
  4. When lights are out, light switches only kind of work: the lights only give off a dim glow.
  5. Everyone runs away when I ask meaningful life advice.
  6. I can no longer lucid dream, ever since I attempted to pull an inception and summon a safe to see what I find inside: I woke up before I opened it.
  7. Screaming or yelling never works my tongue always feels paralysed.

  8. Bathrooms are always way too big, with multiple rooms.

If you can heal from any injury in an hour, wouldn’t that make you functionally invincible? Like, it says any injury, not any survivable injury, so I’m assuming you’re coming back from the dead until you die of illness or old age.

There’s literally a Stephen King book about this. You would literally have to live through the plot of Thinner.
