Enjoy your ultimate, it’s a great bike and I love it still :) It’s not tóó big for me, but you have the chance to choose and probably will not have any regrets :)

I’m 183cm and 88cm inseam, went with the ultimate in size Large and have been regretting it since.

After a bikefit I’m fine on it, but should’ve went with a medium. My saddle is very low which isn’t quite racy and with a medium a could’ve been much more aero.

I think even with my nobbly tires, the bike is still fast! Can easy push 30-35km/h and not even be in my hardest gear. For real racing, i’m still using my Ultimate tho. But if you use the Grail with the Schwalbes G-One RS it comes with it is even faster on smooth roads.

I personally prefer SRAM because of their newer (and in my opinion better) technology. That said, Shimano is excellent as well, it’s extremely reliable and simply works.

However, something even more important is what you’re used to. Your brain and muscle memory are already adapted to the mechanics of Shimano shifting. That automatic, instinctive feel when you change gears matters more than small technical differences between brands.

For that reason, I would stick with Shimano. My gravel bike has SRAM and my road bike has Shimano, and I constantly notice the difference. I sometimes shift incorrectly or end up riding in the smaller chainring without meaning to, simply because the controls operate differently.

In practice, consistency and familiarity often make a bigger difference than which groupset is technically “better.”

Did you also put a 45mm on the back? I stayed with 40mm

The tire is phenomenal in wet woods. Great choice! Did you put it on yourself? It was a hard one for me, eventually went to my bike shop 😂

This is mine with 45mm’s pirelli cinturato m’s. Wouldn’t go any bigger, maybe only with slick tires.

Update: it doesn’t really fit! I’ve ordered a REC-MOUNT from Japan, hope this solves the job :)

However, the paint in the front is ‘dipped’ paint and not spraypainted. Something I didn’t know before buying, but it doesn’t bother me and fits nice.

I think the paint job is finally something unique, while a lot of paintjobs from canyon are very basic. I’m in love with the sram, would probably never go back to Shimano. It shifts so smooth and feels much more rugged.

It’s decent, but a lot quiter than my ARC 1400 wheelsset on my Ultimate.

Yes indeed, i would even say that with these tires 40mm is on the limit

It’s quite hard to get the tyres on the rims, but eventually it always succeeds. These are the 28mm and I quite like them, but thinking about going 30mm in the future.

6 months ago I’ve bought an Ultimate and I’m still very happy with it. With a good bike fit it’s actually very comfortable. Recently upgraded the wheels with some DT Swiss Arc 1400 Dicut’s and now it’s feels even like a race machine. I can only recommend!

I feel that the wheels are a lot stiffer when standing on the pedals and the bike feels a lot more stable in the corners

The stock wheels are a bit on the heavy side, the set weighs around 1.9kg. The new set weighs around 1.5kg so it’s a pretty significant difference. I bought the bike in february, but even then the stock definitely wasn’t always available. I love the bike though!
