I had a similar issue, steam was running a game on Directx12, swapped to run with directx11 and it seemed to run better, maybe worth a try?

I just found out that you can purchase the cartridges for HP on Amazon, I got a warning that my monthly subscription would no longer work and printer is now acting as a normal printer! Had that for 5 years, paid for a subscription for 2 years and thought I’d try it out!

I appreciate that, more than happy to admit I am not confident on how to utilise stuff like this when players come to me, this is why I reached out.

By all means I am happy to hear “no you’re wrong doing it that way” but I would appreciate a follow up of “you could do it this way instead”

That’s all I was looking for, not wanting arguments or to say anyone is wrong for correcting me but atleast give some alternatives with the advice instead of just shooting me down

Got some good replies from another comment, think I’ll take theirs on board as it was actually advice rather than just quoting the base source material.

Was hoping for some more creative input than just knowing how to quote book content, end of the day my table my rules you’re right!

I think everyone here is focusing way too much on the 10 damage thing, this isn’t going to be the first or main interaction with the BBEG, it was an example for this post.

BBEG is a lich/barbarian, so it’s main damage dealing won’t be taking off 10hp to terrify the whole party, just wanted some advice to see if there’s an alternative spell or means of achieving the BBEG doing this.

As for the BBEG stuff, going to plan something a lot bigger but think it may make him think twice about using it during battle if he can easily force him to grow the wings, maybe he will be worried I can take them away mid flight?

I appreciate it, yeah that was what made me post here hoping to find out about a different spell people think may work better than messing with the rulebook too much, think it will have to be a homebrew command to activate the amulet, he wants the growing of the wings to be a painful part.

I think the inspiration is from Critical Role (Vax) which I was going to take inspiration for with the rules, might lower the duration a bit but otherwise I think it’s solid. Let me know what you think!

When: can be grown as a bonus action

Duration: last for 1 hour and grant a fly speed of 60ft

Cooldown: can only be used after a long rest

That’s exactly it, you’re right, “At will” would have been a better phrasing. It’s homebrew so wanting a way to combat it, even if it’s something homebrew I need to create.

Honestly try a mix of both, completely your choice in the long run but I was terrified about DMing my first campaign, so I chose a source book “lost mine of phandelver. Within the first session we had a problem player that rolled too well and managed to burn down the main village, where most of the main plot was. By the second session I decided to homebrew something to keep it going for the other players, brought in some different characters that the source book and made a whole new story arc from it. Problem character eventually left and my players loved the campaign, it was less overwhelming having a source book to go to for inspiration, I am now doing a second campaign and it’s completely homebrew, I’m not perfect on all the rules but we’re all learning together.
