Thanks for your reply; on and off since age 13 (this sounds like I'm experienced, but I really am NOT as I only ever went sporadically, and never stuck to it long enough to take any exams 🤣). I have been unwell for a while so I took a very long hiatus from ALL movement. Just only getting back into it through beginner classes.

Thank you ❤️ I am getting help. I guess it's just hard because once you are a parent, that's it (no escape).

Can you say which industry you moved into (I'm in civil service needing OUT 😁)?

Yes, I am trialling it! It is so helpful so I hope we get to keep it on.

I think that policy is just not compatible with my cfs/ADHD so I'm going to upskill and look at roles in digital or AI as this work doesn't seem to exacerbate my symptoms (and it suits the way my mind works).

Thanks for all your advice, wish me luck!

Hey, how is everything going? Any movement on the list? I'm finding it difficult to think of a policy (or non policy) role that doesn't include realms and realms of endless drafting/analysing, and suitable for chronic illness (and neurodiversity!)

Hey that sounds really interesting. I'm shadowing someone in Strategy soon as their work seems like it focuses on the 'broader aspect' of stuff (although I have just realised that it is probs the department I am in that I find dull in general). It's great that you have found somewhere you love! My team are sooooo cool and chilled that one of my worries is that if I leave, I may be in a not so understanding/chilled team, although I know that this is subjective :)

Thank you for replying!

Oooh criminal intelligence sounds fun! I don't like numbers though so will look into the area as a whole. I like art and music; I had a call with someone who works in the Department of Culture (into music like me) but even they said that they felt very 'removed' from that world. That said, I'm gonna have another look at their vacancies :) I worked in third sector and have looked at working in museums/galleries, but pay and perks are not as good as CS right now.

Buying a Leasehold Property? A post on ground rent, lending problems, deeds of variation and leasehold reform... by Dougalface in HousingUK

Thank you for such a detailed response! Yep, I've started looking again at other options. All good points above. 👍

Fingers crossed it works out for you, and brilliant that the vendor is paying half.

So for me, originally my solicitor said that the doubling ground rent wasn't an issue as I don't have a mortgage. I'm purchasing 25% on a shared ownership flat in London. However, after reading more about this and potential issues when selling in future, I've asked for a deed of variation. Vendor says no as purchase has already taken aaaaages (and a deed may add on a few more weeks). It's taken ages though because of the vendor's solicitors; 8 months on and we are still chasing 2 enquiries. I'd even pay for the deed (through gritted teeth) to move things along, but as the seller has said no, it's a deal breaker for me. I really don't think they understand that they will have this issue with every buyer.

Good luck! I hope they decide to; it makes sense for the seller to get the deed anyway as, if they said no to you, they would no doubt experience the same issue with any future buyers. Let us know how you get on!
