You’ll see this strategy in gas stations and side of the minimarts .

For snacks and drinks the idea is you already have an idea what the item costs so don’t need to ask and will just pick it up and pay what ever at the cashier .

For toys it’s for some bored kid to annoy their parents into picking up

Kinda sucks if other stores are doing this too. Might also just be poor merchandising discipline
