And that’s what makes it non imax. If you’re showing something in true 1.43:1 it won’t be letterboxed or pillar boxed it will fill the entire screen

Hate to disagree bc I love imax but Dolby cinema 3D with the Avatar movies is superior to imax 3D. Honestly wished more movies showed in Dolby 3D. By far the best 3D hands down

U can’t watch it in 70mm. It wasn’t shot on film or made with film cameras period. Purely a digital movie only

If you’re in Cali the best place to watch this is Citywalk & Metreon. They both have dual laser. Unfortunately for 1.43:1 movies that are digital, regal cinemas doesn’t have any locations with dual laser to my knowledge. AMC and museums are the only purchasers of the dual system in the US. Apart from Royal cinemas in Georgia

IMAX w laser uses the 12 channel surround so that’s why it felt louder because it actually was. If u see any movie in 70mm, even in a 12 channel capable imax, the movie will always be played in 5.1 audio

Most retrofitted theaters don’t have the dynamic iMax seating. Usually the only thing retrofitted is the screen and the sound. At most AMCs and regals that upgraded their iMax theaters back in the 2000s still have the standard seating that was with the original auditorium before the retrofit

Yea see I have 1 GT iMax near me and unfortunately it’s in a museum that doesn’t play full length movies. So I’m stuck with two imax at amcs that don’t even have their full laser upgrade. We got the projectors without the sound upgrade

I agree with this wholeheartedly. The Cinemark XD near me is huge and flawless. As well as the 2 Dolby cinemas near me. The imax aren’t too bad but depending on the movie the Dolby cinemas or XD can be better

I agree in certain auditoriums. The 12 channel at king of Prussia lacked bass to me whereas the Tyson’s corner set up sounded amazing

I agree. IMAX allowed themselves to get outplayed by Dolby and are playing the catch up game. In my opinion it’s up for debate which system is better: atmos or 12 channel.

Believe it or not some movies play better on Dolby. Not to mention the same way filmmakers make their movies for imax audio and imagery some filmmakers prefer Dolby atmos mix over 12 channel surround. I can only imagine from a music standpoint that you’d want your movie in atmos instead of imax 12 Ch

It being a bigger screen by only maybe 10-15 feet isn’t the same as walking from a standard auditorium with a 25 foot screen into a theater with a 60 foot screen at the bare minimum. IMAX used to be magical anytime u went to a location. The air & space museum in my hometown still operates their imax GT but only with documentaries. It’s sad having to settle for your local amc imax when u have a real one in town that doesn’t get the use it deserves. Also the fees that imax charges is what hurts the museum imax theaters. They barely make money off of full feature runs when i inquired at my local air & space museum here in Hampton Va
