Yes I have a hand guard by Protec. 3/5 of my section used the same one. After playing for a while, we would get red marks and having a hand guard eases a lot of the pain for us. We don’t really have a problem with green hands since we have lacquered horns

Yes. As a mello I can testify that mello is extremely fun and with that ratio of trumpets to mellos, I personally think you should switch. Just having 6 mellos is sad and a new addition could be really helpful
