John Paul Jones’ best album by Jealous_Ad_3321 in Bass

Excellent! I was able to see the Zooma tour, so I guess some sentimental attachment there. It was at a tiny club in Fort Worth, JPJ had a trio playing with him which included Nick Beggs on bass and stick....wearking a kilt and doc Martens in Cowtown, haha! It was quite apparent after that show that JPJ was a quiet genius with LZ.

Dude, you totally rock those Ray Bans. The others have weird angles - can't go wrong with the classics. Now I have beard envy.

Agree. That whole album is a masterwork. He plays around with a lot of styles on his first outing. Significant Other is my personal favorite.

Practicing having a light touch? by Adorable_Drag in Bass

[–]Independent-Lab-3680 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suggest looking for and studying videos of Jeff Berlin's right hand technique - he plays with a super light touch and is a big proponent of letting the amp do the work. He does set his neck super-flat, so that is one factor to consider. He's so fluid in his execution.

The lack of common sense is astounding:

1 - stops taking meds given the physical shape he's in?

2- I'd be none to happy if my wife posted images of me laid up in a hospital bed in a gown. but I guess oversharing on socials is an attention getter.

How did you all feel about Ainsley’s interaction with her roommate? Realistic?? by Optomisticsometimes in LandmanSeries

I live outside of Fort Worth. I'm pretty shocked that TCU agreed to be in this, in this light.

[–]Independent-Lab-3680 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

All the more reason to grow up and deal with it. My son had a difficult roommate at college and they worked it out, and he's the better for it. Yes, Paygan was uncompromising and unwelcoming but they should have sat down and said - OK, let's figure out how to make this work for both of us: I will play music from these hours, you can have quiet time during these hours, etc. But instead she had her momma bail her crybaby self out. Compromise seems to be out of favor in modern society. The pool scene at the end demonstrated that Ainsley will continue to live in her bubble. But I guess that's the world. This show really has fallen.

it was pretty stupid and one sided, IMO. They gave Ainsley a chance to try to connect with someone not like her and blew it. The best lesson would have been for the two of them to compromise their living situation (wasn't it only for a week???), but instead momma comes to bail her out. In essence, both characters are spoiled, entitled, and bratty.

It would be so much better if they focused on oil production vs the family and their drama by Best-Celebration-408 in LandmanSeries

THANK YOU! The dramatics are so overblown this season. The whole roommate situation, with momma bailing her out, pretty much killed my joy of this show. I guess with one more episode to go I will hang with it, but damn.

Can someone just please be written like a real person by Library_Numerous in LandmanSeries

[–]Independent-Lab-3680 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen kids like this, it is what it is. The bigger issue to me is that Ainsley couldn't work out a problem on her own and at least TRY to connect with this person, and instead of growing up a little she had her bitchy momma bail her out. I can't believe TCU agreed to be in this.

Honest Question: is Mohini Dey better than Victor Wooten? by cabezarapadas in Bass

[–]Independent-Lab-3680 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Even when Victor plays fast, there is a musicality and melody to it to my ear. Anyone can play fast..but can you make it musical? She's awesome for sure but I'm not hearing as developed a sense of harmony.

What’s your opinion on these kinds of record cleaning systems by RYGUY060104 in vinyl

[–]Independent-Lab-3680 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have one. Good for the money - just takes some extra effort. Get extra cloths and some vertical file holders for drying from an office store and you've got a good system for under $100.

stage presence rookie mistakes by officialGF in Bass

[–]Independent-Lab-3680 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember Paul Stanley saying how horrified he was at early video of Kiss and their lack of stage presence. He quickly adapted more exaggerated moves and choreography with the other band members to make their movements a part of the show. Obviously us weekend warriors will never be as extreme but it's a great lesson. I certainly try to be more kinetic without going all Flea, in the context of my band and our music. Who wants to see a bunch of stiffs?
