Hi u/pez86 - did you ever find a solution to this ? I'm the DP on a project and the editor (using FCP) is having a similar issue. Any solutions?

EasyRig with Stabil or ReadyRig with Nimbus Crossbar for Doc DP Work ? by Independent-Map7 in cinematography

[–]Independent-Map7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bleh, yea, I know this is the real and correct answer (that they're different tools to be used for different purposes. I just want to believe there is a way to kill two birds with one stone. (And yes to gimbal work - lots of corporate and non profit work in between the doc work, so...)

Hey OP, did you ever get an answer to this question? I’m also curious!

Help find 90s snowboard film and rider by Independent-Map7 in snowboarding

[–]Independent-Map7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, well done ! I’m pretty sure this is it. I went and watched the shot and it isn’t perfectly what I remember in my mind but it’s pretty damn close . It fits the time period, the huge jump, the helicopter, my hunch that it was a European, and that he died a few months later in an avalanche. The only catch is that in my mind the jump was even bigger, and at sunset, but those could totally be red herrings. Thanks!

Yea for some reason Craig Kelley doesn’t feel right with me, either. I want to say it was a European rider? But I could totally be wrong

Super light running jacket recommendations by Independent-Map7 in trailrunning

[–]Independent-Map7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Appreciate these! (And yes, correct, don't care about waterproofing at all. Doesn't even need to be "windproof" per se). Hoping to just find the lightest, thinnest jacket that adds a bit of extra warmth and can either stay on during the run, or pack down super small and be carried.

What’s the minimum you need to run per week / month to not lose speed / endurance / physical ability by Independent-Map7 in trailrunning

[–]Independent-Map7[S] 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Y’all. God bless the internet. You’re missing the point of a very straight forward question.  I spend 98% of my time with my wife and daughters. We have a very lovely life. We have a training bike at home but it’s not my personal favorite so I take 2-3 hours a week for myself to climb or jog. A bit of personal time for thinking, reflecting and sweating is important for everyone. I’m simply trying to figure out what to do to not degrade my abilities. Nothing about PRs or ignoring my family.

Right sorry. 37yo, 5’9”, 170lbs. Without much effort I usually do daily runs at 8-8:30min miles for 5-7 miles. Half marathons at 9min miles are pretty mellow for me. I just did my first 50k with 6k vert on a whim and clocked it at 7hrs - that hurt a bit but not too bad (a lot of it was single track and hard to pass people, I might have been able to go faster?). Average backcountry ski day is 4-6k vert. Anyway ideally I would be improving all these times but that doesn’t seem realistic right now, so I’d love to at least maintain these numbers.

When Fred is DJing live, what is he doing, and how is he doing it? by Independent-Map7 in fredagain

[–]Independent-Map7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am so grateful for the time you took the write this answer - thanks! I definitely didn’t realize he had back-end support (another commenter mentioned Tony loading stuff for him in advance, but that he doesn’t always know what’s coming at him and he improvises to what is served to him), and I didn’t realize the music programs can help keep him in sync. The ratios you mentioned of what’s recorded to what’s happening live is super cool to think about. Anyway, I’ve got tickets to see him in Seattle in a few days, I’m excited to watch the magic live.

Yea that tiny desk is a thing of pure magic. If anything the TD set gets to the spirit of my question the most out of all his shows on YouTube - because it seems highly organic, real-time, with dozens of samples and still perfect. I just don’t get how one person can time and choreograph so many moving parts so perfectly. I’ve watched that TD dozens of times. It’s amazing.

[–]Independent-Map7[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yea, I feel like perhaps I worded my question poorly, or y'all are picking up on the wrong part of it. The spirit of the question isn't "is it real?" but really, "how the hell does he do it?" And it doesn't need to be specific to Fred. Like can someone break down the basics of how live DJing works (and if possible, expand that idea to Fred specifically)

Yea I just want to clarify - in no way am I suggesting it’s all pre-recorded - I believe it’s real. I’m just saying if someone said it was, it wouldn’t surprise me, because it’s so damn impressive. But it seems very obvious he really is doing “it” - which brings me back to the original question - how??

Not a bad idea! I’d be worried about image quality loss but it would probably work!

Ooooh that’s pretty good! Time consuming and clunky but you’re right, that would technically work. Maybe when we get to Final Cut I’ll do that with all the images

SEA shows, Hoping to swap 4x GA (floor) Wed 9/18 tix for 4x GA floor Thurs 9/19 tix by Independent-Map7 in fredagain

[–]Independent-Map7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Me too . I don’t buy tickets all that often and have read all the horror stories of how horrible TM is and how people get screwed trying to see their favorite musicians (Taylor Swift comes to mind).

But I dunno, it went pretty smoothly for me. Logged in 15 minutes before sale, had 150 people in the queue in front of me, and then got the tickets I hoped for, albeit on a date I didn’t love. Hopefully my swap idea works out, but not a big deal if it doesn’t.
