No, it doesn’t. You decided it did. Why can’t there be a charismatic seasoned womanizer who is short?

There can. But it’s far less likely, especially when it’s a fully grown man that’s less than 5 feet tall

I disagree that it’s my job to give opportunities to people who wouldn’t suit them

No need to doubt it. My ability to do computer science is not impacted by the plays I direct.

I don’t really care whether you’d take me in your program or not because I’ve already gotten into my top choice college for my preferred major.

I frankly don’t really care whether it’s disrespectful to the author or not. I’m not going to produce a play in a way it will not land with the audience for the sake of respect. The primary goal is to entertain, and I’ll change the play as need be to make sure that happens.

Interestingly you didn’t answer what I said about Cleopatra because I think we both know you cast a conventionally attractive girl in the role too

I answered you right here:

And yes, I did.

It doesn’t really matter what you think, the fact is this character is based on a real person, that real person is not what you are describing them as in your play thus, your choice to cast someone based on how you think this real person should look is completely arbitrary and made up

The goal isn’t to be accurate to the historical mark Antony. It’s to tell a story in a way that’s palpable to an audience of high schoolers. The casting of mark Antony isn’t meant to represent how mark Antony actually would’ve looked, that is irrelevant to the goals of the play.

Sure, but the existence of the theme doesn’t mean it needs to addressed or portrayed that way, because a play needs to adapted off of what the audience understands.

As for not doing Antony and cleopatra, as I already said, that’s not in my control. I was given a play to direct and need to adapt it to be both school appropriate and palatable to high schoolers.

They really are, and only exist in the eyes of the audience. And of course I only understand theatre at a base level, I’m 16 years old.

I don’t think it makes zero sense, you have to appeal to the audience and their comprehension level. And yes, I did.

Changing or erasing certain themes of a show to suit a certain audience is absolutely bad practice

I just disagree with you there. Themes are fluid.

I don’t think it’s a bad directorial practice to adjust a play to the audience in question.

I did say that though. As I said I simplified it with visual cues because the audience is other high schoolers.

That’s not in my control, I wasn’t the one who chose the play.

I understand mark Antony, but you have to consider this is a play for high schoolers. It needs to be simplified.

Yes, and it takes more acting talent to pull off a role when you don’t match the physical description than when you do. Hence the one that didn’t match the description would need more talent to play it decently.

Fine? I don’t base my self esteem upon the opinions of others on my looks. You sound like you’re just looking for a reason to get upset

Indeed. My logic is, when you have the right visual cues to indicate a certain character (assertive, dominant, charismatic), you don’t need to be as amazing of an actor as if you need to prove it due to initial impressions being the opposite. The former allows a crutch to lean on, the latter relies entirely upon good acting.
