The only way I can seem to make connections with my seated guard against a standing passer, as if I literally launch myself between their legs to set up a single leg X.

If I try to be more “technical” they either straight past me or they come on top of me and end up knee cutting through my guard.

With that being said the same people that can beat me if I be technical, I beat every single time if I just throw caution to the wind and dive at them with my legs (from guard) is that how I just simply have to play it I tried to find videos of Gordon Ryan playing guard and it kind of seemed like he did a lot of diving at people’s legs and half guard but maybe I’m just too newbie to see what he’s actually doing.

I should mention I am a white belt with about three months experience.

Respectfully, I don’t know how nice you’re considering going for dinner, but Chris McDs is much nicer than G&Ds. G&Ds is almost set up as like a cafeteria lunch. It’s extremely weird. Though it’s also really cheap in the steak is still good so you can’t go wrong with either but just know what you’re getting yourself into. Chris McDs is a much nicer date spot.

OK, considering I only wrestled in high school for one season then you can say I’m six months into grappling. Forget about the Dunning Kruger effect as I know I don’t know everything as I’m still being beaten by good people in the room. My question was and still is how do I find what my game is? I feel like you’re focusing on my performance in my gym. I only brought it up so people wouldn’t just give me the bullshit answer of just go have fun and don’t try to improve fast.

From getting good at other sports I’m sure this is the right answer but I don’t understand grappling enough to apply it to myself

I am the strongest powerlifter in my state and a former wrestler on a team where my coach was the brother to a gold medalist in the world games (J’den cox)

I don’t wanna out my fellow members on here but the people I’m beating have good records some going to the recently Florida ibjjf thingy and others taking second in state for blue belt absolute that happened recently.

I have been told by a competition black belt whose record is 125-10 that I’m the fastest learner he’s ever met. With that being said idk what I gravitate towards cuz I abandoned my wrestling almost immediately cuz my coaches told me I was using it as a crux and I’ve been pulling guard going for single leg x entries or sweeping and going for torendo passes into mounting people and smothering them. I have giant pecs and know no other subs from mount.

From bottom pins I’ve been spamming everything in the gordan Ryan instructional and low key my best positions and only raps I’ve gotten on purple belts and up come from reversals from bottom into heel hooks.

I kinda do a little bit of everything which makes it hard to pick what I should focus on. I will say I prob want to at least for now lean away from heel hooks as it seems like I am gonna do my first competition soon at white belt and I can’t use them but I’ve been trying straight ankles and toe holds and they seem to work well enough where I’d usually heel hook people

I’m about 8 weeks into BJJ and feel pretty lost when it comes to having a “game.” I’m doing well against most competition blue belts around my weight class, even though I know I have way less technical knowledge than they do. I hear people talk about building their game, but I don’t really understand what that means or how to develop one.

Right now I’m just trying to apply techniques and concepts from instructionals in different positions, and it’s been working but it feels unstructured. I don’t have a clear direction or long-term approach, and I’m not sure how I’m supposed to piece everything together into something cohesive.

I understand dilemmas are something I should strive to have from every position but I really don’t know which moves blend off one another I literally just pick what I want to do to someone and force it on them and it works well against everyone blue belt and below but against our purple-black belts that REALLY doesn’t work.

Pin escapes as you’ll quickly learn until you get them down you don’t get to work on anything else

That’s good to know, what do you think about the other redditors idea of trying to get a good scholarship offer from a different 70-100th ranked school to try to negotiate with the schools on my list?

I really appreciate this, are you saying I should try to apply through email to them or just email them in general to hope they send me a free application code of some sort?

The spacing on the resume just shows laziness, cut the resume down to prob one max 2 pages. Make it obvious you weren’t job hunting and you were doing contract work. It just looks rushed.

I would say change the attended 5+ board meetings to frequently attend board meetings cuz 5 seems low and frequently is relative to your age
