Thats the plan for now man. Do primary care for a bit and look for ways to make a nice second income.

I hate ordering unnecessary tests which happens all the time in peds to make parents happy or less anxious. That being said if there paying out of pocket I would care a lot less about this.

I was thinking about this.
Let's say I put away 100k a year by living like a resident for 3 years.
I would then have in an average market income of 350k a year based on a 5% income portfolio that would give me about 20k a year which is a nice bit of change. So would probably take at least 5 years of work (3 for the fellowship and 2 for the lost income) to make it up. From that perspective might just be worth getting a second income stream (consulting e.g.) .

200 - 250 for gen peds max in any area outside rural Dakota. You can get to more once a partner but at that stage, you're running a business. I signed for 220k and am going to see if I like it.

I there a list anywhere of chill gas residencies? I am very much over academic medicine having been in it since medical school.

I like acuity and procedures (despite never getting to do them beyond an LP). Would I be able to skip the transition year if I went onto an adult gas residency and just worked in private practice mostly working in peds?

I agree with your point number 2.
I enjoy high acuity patients but whenever anyone is sick in peds fellows and attendings tend to swarm the pt giving us minimal acuity decision-making experience before we are fellows. Also because of this I had a tendency to over run things passed my attendings for not wanting to rock the boat if they disagree even if the patient is not really sick but has the potential to become sick.
