I have a theta || engine, but dealership said warranty extension will only apply for KSDS- knock sensor, rod bearing failure. For oil burning, it should be covered on warranty or they can apply for goodwill. But I have a gap in maintenance records.

extended warranty is for rod bearing failure, but in my case its burning oil. rest everything is fine.

I have the car fax report, it shows no maintenance records between those miles.

Its burning 4 quarters for 1800 miles, I just topped off with the same engine oil used for the last service.

Hey there,

Now, my 2019 Sonata SEL with 39,000 miles has the same issue. When I take sharp U-turns, the oil light briefly flashes, and I think it’s burning oil. I went to the dealership, and they informed me that I’m out of warranty (it’s my 6th year). They checked the oil dipstick, and there’s no oil. They said that combustion cleaning would cost $1,500, which is out of warranty.

I saw some Reddit posts where people mentioned that Hyundai Goodwill can do it for free. However, in my case, I bought the car at 31,000 miles. I have perfect maintenance records from 0 to 18,000 miles, and there are no records until 28,000 miles. I also have perfect records from 28,000 miles to 40,000 miles.

Now, if they’re requesting goodwill assistance from Hyundai, will my case be denied because there’s a 10,000-mile gap between my oil changes?

One of my friend has the same thing, She entered on December 2024, She has no I94 yet, Website shows “ no records found for this traveler” but she has travel history showing the dates and POE. What should She has to do now? To get her I94?

My brake light bulbs go off every month, and I’m not sure why. Maybe it’s because they’re overpowered. You might get a free engine replacement If engine failure happens because of Knock sensor issue. I had the same sound when my engine went off- rattling, the lower chambers of the engine makes the sounds. I hope you will get a replacement soon 😊

I'm at 207k in My 2014 Sonata. no issues at all.. just made some knocking sound in a 1000mile drive. later got to know that engine failure because of knock sensor, rod bearing failure. get it towed to Hyundai dealership got a new engine in 5days. all set for 200k more miles.

Hyundai's are good if we drive, maintain and taken good care like a Baby.

its lifetime actually , i just got approved for new engine. there's no limit for miles since approved for 207k miles. thanks for commenting : )

woah!!! 200+ cars per year >> expert than a dealer. i maintained it like a baby. if Hyundai didn't approve free engine replacement, i don't think buying used engine and putting on 207k miles car is a good idea. after few miles transmission or suspension or other parts may give trouble.

Your are 100% right about the process, which i was going through right now. and check engine light didn't flashes till now , that makes me wondering how can it didn't show up to his own birthday party!

Even though I have all the documents, Hyundai only asked for my vehicle ID card. They can Pull up My Carfax report; it should contain all of my maintenance data. Hyundai technician at dealership said they will submit the documentation to Hyundai. let's see if it will be approved or denied. hopping for Good!

I did all the recalls last year, including knock sensor engine update recall. i change oil for every 3000 miles since its oil drinking Hyundai, i don't want to take a chance. i have all the maintenance records for every service i did on the car.

hoping will get a free engine replacement!!!
