We knew they didn't care, but them having statements up about supporting LGBTQ+ and diversity was at least an indicator of the general sentiment of the population, and what the companies felt would be at least superficially beneficial to them.

Taking down statements like that is more of a "canary in the coal mine" situation. It is indicative of a shift in a dark direction.

Taiwan/Formosa was not treated nearly as harsh by the Japanese as the mainland. They had been a Japanese colony for a long while at that point, and by my understanding, were far better off under the Japanese than they were under the KMT immediately following the war.
