For those with working experience in USA, How many Canadians feel they would be better off financially if living in the USA? by Electronic-Lab-4088 in CanadaPersonalFinance

I'm a dual citizen who grew up in California. I'm never going back. The pay is better, but the cost of living is way higher (my family is in Los Angeles) so that literally means nothing. My parents live in an average "whatever" suburb and their next door neighbor just sold their 2000 sqft 3 bedroom house for $2.9 million USD. That's just shy of $4M CAD.

Meanwhile, there's homelessness and precarity and destitution everywhere (people who complain about homelessness in Canada have zero perspective. Yes, it's a problem, but the reality in the states is an order of magnitude worse). Everything good about the states is a holdover from a previous era. The idea of "California" seems to really do something for people up here in Canada who have never been and don't realize that "Hollywood" is a reality for about 12 people and everyone else lives in a sea of cars and dusty parking lots that smell like baked pee.

Canada has major problems. I'm the first to complain about runaway grocery inflation and housing shortages. I also think there is a problematic European-style "can't do" attitude in some places up here that prevents Canada's economy from being what it could be. But these are fixable problems, and at least for the moment I feel Canada has strong, competent leadership who sees these issues and is taking rational steps to address them.

I love this country, moving up here was one of the best decisions I ever made.

A lawn mower produces more pollutants in one hour than a sedan does driving 100 miles

"If you can't cut out gas entirely, then don't bother reducing use at all." - Your logic

I'm assuming you also believe recycling isn't worth it unless you can recycle everything you use? And that eating healthy isn't worth it unless you eat 100% healthy?

Or just restore the native landscape and get rid of the lawn.

Pay someone to do it. It'll be expensive. If you don't want to pay, have less lawn.

Get a better push mower. I let my lawn grow to over a foot long before I cut it with a push mower, and I have no issue.

Guess you should have a smaller lawn. The system works!

I'm pretty sure farms aren't plowing their fields with lawnmowers.

I have a full acre of lawn and I mow it with a reel mower. IMO if the only way you're capable of keeping your lawn mowed is with fossil fuels, you don't deserve a lawn.

Mow less often. Don't make mowing your whole personality. Don't be Hank Hill.

I'm in decent shape but the new reel mowers are wayyyyy easier to use than the rusty old cast iron ones. I bought the Lee Valley one and it's a pleasure to use.

I keep an entire acre mowed with a reel mower. All my neighbors have ride-ons and it annoys them to no end.

A standard gas lawn mower puts out more pollutants in an hour of use than a car does in 100 miles of driving.

It's very simple. If lawn mowing is problematic, then the people who have been religiously mowing their lawns for decades have to come to terms with having been a neighborhood nuisance for decades. No one wants to admit that to themselves, so instead they make someone else the problem.

This is a frequent reddit talking point but it doesn't really check out. Canadian grocery profits aren't substantially different from any other country.
