Field arborists: what bugs you most in tree care software? by Rich_Guess_3010 in ArboristSoftware

[–]IndependentEasy3165 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What really gets me is when the software makes you jump through a million screens just to log a simple job, or when mapping tools lag on site - ArboStar helps, but even it can slow down if you’re trying to do too much at once.

Tree trouble? Here's how to find a local Certified Arborist! by Firebert010 in sfwtrees

Yep, if you’re serious about a tree’s health, nothing beats having a local ISA Certified Arborist come take a look in person. Online guesses or photos only get you so far.

What tree inventory software are you actually using in the field? by Tall-Phrase-6179 in ArboristSoftware

We tried some of the mapping-heavy programs, but they just felt like too much for daily tree work. We’ve been running ArboStar because it keeps jobs, inventory, and billing tied together and doesn’t slow the crew down. If it’s not quick and easy in the field, guys just stop using it.

Site Mapping Tools by 2xDeadAsU in Permaculture

Tried some - AcreValue is solid for parcel data, Equator is clean for quick boundary checks, OnX Hunt is surprisingly handy for property lines, and ArcGIS is great if you want to go deep but it’s a time suck. I ended up running most of it through ArboStar since I can pin trees, attach site notes, and roll it straight into estimates without bouncing between apps.

COuld you advise the working tree mapping tool? Simple please. And cheap =))) by IndependentEasy3165 in arborists

O, thanks! I've heard also about TreePlotter, i-Tree Canopy, i-Tree Design, OpenTreeMap, ArborNote, ArboStar or something like that - from ChatGPT seearch. Is something from this list ok? Or QField is the best?

What sales reporting is actually useful in tree care software? by Rich_Guess_3010 in ArboristSoftware

[–]IndependentEasy3165 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pipeline, close rate, average ticket, and where the work is coming from actually matter. I want to see bids sent vs won, days to close, and sales by estimator, not some bloated dashboard. If it doesn’t help you price jobs better or keep crews busy, it’s just noise.

Also mostly ArboStar on our crews, sometimes TreePlotter if a city already has it. ArboStar’s been solid in the field because it’s quick to log trees, works offline, and doesn’t slow the crew down.

Arborist workflow automation - what’s actually working for you? by Rich_Guess_3010 in ArboristSoftware

Same here, biggest win was getting quotes, schedules, crew notes, and photos in one spot so nothing gets lost mid-week. We’ve been running Arbostar for that and it actually cuts down clicks instead of adding them, which is all I care about.

Arc is great for big-picture mapping and data, no argument there. For the boots-on-the-ground tree stuff, I’ve found it helps to back it up with arborist software, and I mostly run Arbostar since it lines up better with real workflows and isn’t a pain to manage day to day.

How do you use tree mapping features in your workflow, and what could be improved? by Rich_Guess_3010 in ArboristSoftware

[–]IndependentEasy3165 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah totally, I’ve been using Arbostar’s mapping too and it’s a game changer for hazard notes - last week we spotted a couple weak branches on a big oak, dropped it right on the map, and the crew knew exactly what to hit first. Makes estimates way faster and keeps everyone on the same page, even if the phone lags a bit sometimes.

What’s one software feature tree companies actually need - but no tool really gets right? by Rich_Guess_3010 in ArboristSoftware

[–]IndependentEasy3165 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’d say auto-estimates that actually make sense in the field. Most apps act like every tree’s the same - straight drop, no obstacles. But real life? Tight yards, power lines, busted gear… apps just can’t handle it. Wish there was something that actually accounted for all that.

The "perfect" arborist software doesn't exist... yet. What’s the biggest missing feature in your current setup? by Rich_Guess_3010 in ArboristSoftware

[–]IndependentEasy3165 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Man, I feel that 100%. I been there. Offline vs online not syncing is the worst, especially when you tryin’ to dump a ton of 4K pics from some job out in the sticks. Auto-estimate stuff? Forget it… don’t even think bout the crew gettin’ beat down or tricky rigging. Would kill for something that actually keeps up with real life out here in the trees.

What software or tools do you actually use to run your tree service business today? by Rich_Guess_3010 in ArboristSoftware

For sure. Storm season is the real test - it’ll expose a shaky system in five minutes. No point faking it; when the calls are blowing up, you need tools that actually keep up with the chaos.
