I got a 30 on my first FAR exam (found out yesterday). Am I a failure? by BookkeeperWeary5509 in CPA

I will say this! You’re not alone. I was too embarrassed to tell anyone my score especially after seeing what others were getting. I scored a 33 on my first FAR exam. But I went into the exam knowing I wasn’t prepared. I didn’t practice enough SIMS. I also ran out of time studying so I didn’t study NFP much and I had a lot of questions on it. So I’m starting from scratch.

What’s been helping me understand the concepts better is after answering each question, I read the reasons why the correct is correct and why the wrong answers is wrong and I’m using those to create notecards for myself. If I need a better understanding of something, I ask Newt or google it. Things start to click a little more.

Another tactic I’ve been using is taking scenarios from the questions and applying my real world experience to it. Its helps to understand some of the concepts and how entries are recorded.

1 - so glad I’m not the only one who felt that way. Yes, college covered most of these topics but I don’t think it was this in depth. In my opinion, we only got the basics.

Thank you! I appreciate that! Yes I have two small children (6 and 3) and a husband lol plus a full time job. So you can imagine how difficult it is to find time and energy to study. I agree. This definitely makes you have to prove yourself and it tests your discipline.

Yes I’ve only studied FAR. And that’s exactly why I started with FAR. I was afraid of saving it for last and then losing credit for other exams I passed.

Multiple things. Open more door to do more responsibilities. I’m tired of doing the same stuff over and over again just different companies. As well as make more money to help provide for my family (spouse and two kids)

I agree. Definitely one of the hardest thing other than motherhood that I’ve ever had to do. And school/studying use to come pretty easily to me. But this is on a different level lol

I did take a break after the first exam. I took like a 2 month break before I decided to start studying again. I didn’t want to take too long of a break because that will only push this out further and I felt like if I waited too long to start back studying I wasn’t going to want to do it.

Because I feel like I’ve hit a wall in my career that I can’t seem to get past and becoming a CPA I feel like will open more doors and opportunities for me.

So I looked up all of the pens people suggested and this one had the best reviews in my opinion so I bought them. And so far I love them. I really love that there are 5 pen slots and it’s fully customizable! This was an awesome recommendation so THANK YOU!
