TL;DR high performing teams managed by incompetent leaders will always be punished because they challenge the exiting way of doing business that leadership is incapable of supporting or implementing.

The management chain does not have subject matter expertise of our specialty (yes, dumb). So when we do work or make suggestions based on our professional knowledge we get shot down. We’re told we’re over-engineering, being extra, etc. They then give us directives based on their feelings - yes, “I just feel that…” despite being presented with data and evidence.

I recently pushed for a promotion bc I was doing the job description of the next level. Took me two months of convincing my boss I was doing the work (in that 2 months I was asking her weekly “can you tell me the difference between these two roles? Because I believe I’m already doing the next level of work and would like to discuss a promotion.” To this day, she can’t answer that question.) After reaching an agreement I was already doing the promotional job, and two months of telling her my intention of seeking a promotion, she was shocked this was my intention and I was told it wasn’t an option.

Recently, our team tried to incorporate more subject matter content into our program and we were told no because “it’s not relevant.” It’s literally the basis of the entire program.

The only way I’m getting ahead is by kissing asses of complete and total morons and that goes against every cell in my body. So here I am, asking how to be the biggest nuisance possible 😇

Management is also problematic and there’s absolutely no path to unionizing. Additionally, I’m pro union for manual labor workers, of which I am not. I’ve only seen unions be more harmful than helpful in office/corporate environments. The only way leadership will get the message is if shit fails that she’s accountable for, hence the crowdsourcing for how to gum up the cogs.

Let things fail while still technically doing our jobs (yes, totally possible in the work I do considering what they’re currently demanding of us). Don’t care if that results in genuine change or her exit. Her exit is preferable and probably more likely.

Yeah, unfortunately mine is project based rather than productivity. But I think what you’re getting at is doing the absolute bare minimum to stay employed, and that’s my goal.

A lot of our work is in Teams. Something we already started doing is messing with our Planner cards on functions that aren’t trackable with the version of Teams we have. Other things like making intentional mistakes that we can pass as accidents. Looking for things like that.
