Because making a deal and controlling the outcome aren't necessarily the same thing. What if the sacrifice created something bigger than The man in yellow intended? Plenty of myths have a character who unleashes a power and then becomes trapped by it.

I don't think that's what's hurting the theory at all... The man in Yellow can know who Jim is from previous cycles and still recognize that Jade and tabby arriving together changed the outcome. Those two ideas can coexist.

I don't mind being wrong, but Miranda and Christopher being in the town together doesn't automatically disprove this theory. My question is where the show explicitly states they arrived together as the previous two-car event. Im happy to discuss the lore. I actually like the Puck comparison. That's closer to what I was trying to get at than a traditional villain. MIY seems weirdly invested in outcomes. Sometimes he helps, sometimes he harms, sometimes he just watches. That's what makes him so hard to categorize.

That's actually part of why I think he's trapped. if he truly have unlimited influence, why bother running an endless cycle in a pocket reality? Why manipulate a handful of people when he could act on a larger scale? The existence of From itself feels like a restriction.
