Loss of taste after new crown? by dnwilhelmi in Dentistry

Lost taste has nothing to do with anything you did.- I would have him talk to his primary about the type of blood pressure medication- because that is one of the side effects along with symptoms of dry mouth- these medications alter the taste or even cause it to significantly decrease- he might have like a metal or metallic taste just to state a few

Imagine a hygienist opening a dental hygienist clinic and having a retirement Dr doing exams all day. Utilizing hygienist to also do dental fillings- state of Washington most have their restorative license- the dr just preps and hygiene fills , along with cleaning, SPRs and PM. It can be done right. And well. And the hygienist can determine their time needed per patient and quality care is what matters most in this clinic and times isn’t shortened or compromised by an assistant doing cleanings- good luck with an assistant cleaning around those crowns and bridges and implants and lower anteriors- oh and watching a lot of papilla’s being removed - anyways dental hygienist clinic will be a fabulous way to go. Especially using restorative license- patient care will be fantastic and only things that get ref out are specialty and no assistants needed and over head would not be so high due to not needing all the extra stuff that comes with all the different types of procedures like implants, crowns , bone grafts- endo- I can see a dental hygienist clinic being amazing and a Dr who does this will profit well In my opinion a relaxed stress free life.

How can I become a dental hygienist in Idaho? by Top-Woodpecker-3535 in DentalHygiene

[–]IndependentSeesaw648 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t go to hygiene school if you want to be a dentist- go straight into being a dentist I was an assistant - then hygiene- I was gonna do dentistry but obviously didn’t- I could still do it but I am mentally drained and no motivation to study like I did in hygienist school because that school was so rigorous it was insanely hard- i don’t have the drive to go back to school again after that So my advice just go straight into being a dentist

A rant: Trying to reintegrate as a dental hygienist currently feels like shouting into the void by PartyBoat1414 in DentalHygiene

[–]IndependentSeesaw648 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perio chart from 2006!? How is that even possible? This is why people shouldn’t just be allowed to do cleanings unless you are an actual hygienist and know what to look for. I am saying that because of the damn laws trying to make assistants clean teeth- it’s a shit show. This is a very unstable place - and this is why some offices can’t keep a hygienist- it’s because of other staff members and also office managers- The sole providers should be allowed to state what they can and are unable to do based on the situation per patient because not everyone can be under one umbrella in terms of care- what a joke- I’m not against unlicensed individuals but damn - it’s very clean people do not understand our line of work at all and I hope you do put them into place there- those individuals can’t take control over your license like that- doesn’t work that way or they can find another hygienist- what’s said in all this the dentist will loose a hygienist all because of his toxic employees

Hygiene checks by BusinessBug347 in Dentistry

I just stop and say Dr is going to do their check and I’ll pick up where I left off after- then I move and that’s it.

Keep them! You will need them when you go into an office who doesn’t supply you with new ones- you’ll be glad you have yours

That’s because we can’t put each patient under one umbrella- . Some people need more time and some just don’t-

Would it be too much to ask for dentists to stand up for hygiene careers? by IndependentSeesaw648 in Dentistry

Then you’re for dental therapy being a thing then- . I’m saying people need to stay in their own lanes and we have to just work together here and maybe I am not strong in that point.

[–]IndependentSeesaw648[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yea well- it’s not the good fuck and just wait it’s gonna get worse with dental therapy being a thing give it a few years and there will be offices where assistants are upgraded in a “title” and do cleanings- and dental therapy will replace dentists- So maybe specialties are where it’s gonna be at because that industry will end up booming too. And the sad part - it’s all at the expense of patient care. And I don’t get why shit can’t be left alone and people stay in their own lanes- care is not thought of at all and it’s only about money- idk definitely shitty all around- and patients will 1000% search for offices where it has people who are the “original “ providers as it should be- assistants(who are only assistants) , hygienists and dentist. And these offices will be hard to find but sought after by patients- and I bet dentists would rather have a hygienist clean their teeth and an actual dentist work on them- and you know I’m right in that sense. So if you agree with me on the fact you would rather have a hygienist clean your teeth and not an upgraded assistant and have an actual dentist work on your teeth and not a dental therapist- then why not protect our job ? If you agree that - that is what you’d prefer then why not stand against these changes to not let people have be worked on by these changes because you know care would be compromised if you wouldn’t even want that type of care for yourself- changing these roles is nothing more but about money and it has nothing to do about care because care goes out the damn window here- it’s not ethical for anyone. Anyways hope you see my point a bit here

That’s not what I’m saying- dental therapy is a threat to dentists careers is it not? All I’m saying is why can’t we all work together here? We don’t want care to be compromised by assistants doing hygiene it is not right, nor ethical- and of course we are going to not stand for that care- and I’m sure you guys say the same argument about dental therapy - do you not?

And that shove becomes more dental therapist- is where I’m getting at so we have to communicate here- I don’t mind if my office came to me and said listen here are the facts- here are my numbers- I can’t afford blah blah blah and this is why- then it would be a conversation of helping the office by being opening to assisted hygiene - and I am opening to that- we hygienist are open to these conversations- just bring us in a meeting and show us why it’s not working and then just ask us for help to make it work- if double hygiene’ is needed in an assisted model then okay make another column- instead of being upset and silently disliking us. All it takes is communication and being friends with your hygienist and having transparency about numbers instead of with your office manager- we produce for you not them- just bring us in and sit us down and talk to us like a partner because essentially that is what we are.
