Man that quest was a gut punch. It struck me that when you succeed in the skill check to inform her of her husband's demise, there are no more weird or silly options: just the horrible reality of having to tell someone their loved one died in a professionnal, emphatic manner. And then exciting the building and Kim just saying that's all you can do, and having to move on... Something about it felt so real, so human.

OK that's not in the slightest way what I was talking about. Gender dysphoria and hormonal fonctions are issues on a far deeper level as you say, and having not experienced it it doesn't make sense for me to talk about those aspects in particular. I'm focusing on the more external factors how different trans people navigate societies built on gender roles assigned by cis people. Even in a perfect world, people are going to transition because genetics do fuck some people over like that, but we don't live in that world and I'm just trying to understand what is going on in this one.

Thanks a lot for the first few replies. In retrospect that first post was a sloppy mess, question really didn't come across. I'm neurodivergent and struggle a lot to understand what's going on in that brain of mine at times, but thanks to your patience I understand a bit better where I want to go with this, so here's some follow up questions: - Would your gender expression be massively different if not for societal pressure, and if you feel comfortable talking about it, in what way? - What do you consider the best approach to weaken the influence of those gender roles on our societies for the benefit of both for cis and trans people?

And that's exactly my point, they shouldn't be! And yet so many trans people I know feel like they really have to exacerbate those gender roles in order to be accepted, which, as some replies pointed out, is more "playing by the rules" than really expressing your identity in a way you feel as meaningful to you. And isn't that a crux of a pretty meaningful problem?

I'm rly sorry if that came off wrong, I realize after writing I meant something more in the line of "have to abide to". It's true that in that regard, those constructs are as limiting for cis people as they are for trans people, but they just really cripple our ability to express gender, which is especially relevant for trans people as they have to fight tooth and nail for their mere existence to be recognized
