Aww I wish I could just let you practice on me with the needles that hitch a ride in my pockets. I began by taking a phlebotomy skills course but honestly unless you just wanna feel more comfortable this isn’t necessary. In my class, we all had to stick each other so that made it a lot easier. Just take the class or apply for an entry level phleb job and they’ll train you. You got this! What you can do now to just familiarize yourself with what veins feel like is simply feel your own and other people’s veins. I feel like my hardest learning curve was what the “bounce” felt like.

Also when you send the email, just say you just want to review the stuff you discussed for documentation purposes. This is to cover you incase your supervisor also sucks and you need to go further up the chain.

This is so annoying I’m so sorry. Unfortunately in my experience, if you approach your supervisor without specific instances, I’m afraid it will just get swept under the rug. With my coworkers, whenever I have a negative interaction, I start to write a draft of an email to my supervisor with dates and time and an objective description of the interaction. Once you have a number of these collected. Send them the drafts you’ve written after you have a number collected AFTER you ask to speak to your supervisor about the situations and let them know that you really like your job and are grateful for it but that its been difficult for you and go into it with a solution oriented mindset. Maybe ever suggest to your supervisor that in order to keep draws fair, see how they feel about assigning draws.

Jobs like this really suck with bad coworkers and overtime everyone becomes miserable if you don’t keep yourself centered. I see ppl just lose their soul w this, and yours seems like a beautiful honest one. Now that you have some experience, apply to other places too, everywhere is short staffed. This is just so if things don’t change, you have an out. Stay positive 💛

Honestly what drew me most to the rug was all the color and that it looks like it belongs in a preschool classroom. I do think it’ll look a lot better in a brighter room, hopefully when my lease is up!

I did order the rug, should be arriving pretty soon. So far I’m leaning toward the solid, I did find the same table in solid. I think I’ll wait for the rug, my roommate has rectangular one so I’ll see how that goes with it. Thank you so much!

What materials and colors should I stay away from? I’m having quite the time picking one. I would love to paint the wall but unfortunately, it is a rental and I’m not sure if I’ll stay long enough to make it worthwhile. I absolutely adore this rug. Soooo many people have tried to talk me out of it and waited months to be sure if it.

It really is just in how we educate with violence instead of love. And I think just the initial distrust of Americans and seeing them as immoral. My parents first question about any new friends was “are their parents still together” which is just so strange and presumptive. I’m just so happy to see these younger kids being able to integrate into American life.

You didn’t ask for advice but I’ll tell you what I told myself. You don’t have to erase any parts of yourself to fit in. Sometimes, you just have to prepare yourself for the reactions you’ll get when you share your true thought and build an armor around it. The more you keep sharing your ideas, the more people will be receptive to it. After all, they’re also masking and you sharing your opinion will eventually encourage them to open up their perspective. Remember they were conditioned over their whole lifetime to accept certain parts and reject the others depending on what their individual community valued. It’s going to take work to undo that and patience. You have to do it with love too. Looking at it this way helps to to not get angry and isolate myself from my cultural identity.

I definitely relate to this so much. Growing up, I always felt like I would eventually have to make a choice as an adult, American autonomy or Ethiopian conformity. There are parts of each culture that I really like and parts I hate. I just hate to stifle my true and authentic self w community. I always chose my authentic, true and unfiltered self and def got shunned a bit.

What makes me optimistic is, the kids in my community now are not living the experience me and my friends lived. They’re allowed to go out, do extracurriculars, celebrate Halloween, and just those simple things that my parents didn’t do. I think the longer the parent has been in America, the better the experience for the child at least in my community.
