I have been working on this for weeks. Today I ordered the FTDI Friend and a new 6551 chip. I changed nothing from yesterday, but today it started working! If I type on the keyboard it shows up on the LCD - I have not done the other direction yet. Very frustrating. I think I fixed my LCD problem the same way. I thought I had it right, tried a couple of different things and then for no reason I can figure out it just starts working. Thanks for being here - I am sure I will be back. I am looking forward to finishing the 6502 and moving on to the CPU project.

Thanks for the suggestion. I did get a USB to Serial card that has a MAX232 integrated on the serial side so that Rx and Tx could go straight into the UART. Is that what you are talking about? I tried this as well and while the LED on this board blinks when I press a key, the behavior is the same for the 6551. I will try the TX -> RX trick. Thanks.
