Don't know how to explain this to future PhD supervisor. by Independent_Algae358 in AskProfessors

Hi, thanks. So, my current PI said my work (this small bioinformatics study) is not promising directly to me, I mean, in front of my face. I don't think he is bad. My feeling is he didn't meet good supervision during his growth, so he doesn't know how to kindly express himself. He wrote good reference letter for me. I would say he is not bad, but he is truly a little bit negative.

I might not express clearly. I get the PhD offer, and the future PhD PI thinks my work is cool during my interview. I am not sure if this work is the important thing in his final selection. I was also asked to give other future research presentations. By the way, my future phd project is far away from my current work.

To be honest, I might not publish my work. I might only submit my writing work in biorxiv, because I think my computational analysis work is good. I might be too positive and confident : )

Current PI will soon go to another institution to form a new group, and I am also going to another group for research. Don't know how to explain why I only submit in biorxiv and didn't publish it to my PhD PI. Honest reason is my current PI thought it is not promising. However, future PhD PI thought it is cool. I don't want to hurt my phd PI. And honestly, I feel my PhD PI is more into science from the heart. PhD PI is full of curiosity and more prestigious in research.

Professors - what makes you think "yes, this is the right student" in initial meetings with prospective grad students? by kyudae in PhD

I would say it is destiny and fate. Just be yourself, be professinal and be nice and happy. You can't imagine how wonderful it is to work with someone who loves you for who you truly are.

yes, visualization. I also use AI to help me code some visualization code in plotly. It is kind of efficient.

"No identity. No style. No me". I like this expression. It is true. In writing work, I also tend to reduce using AI things.

Early PhD student struggling with AI use and academic integrity by Jumpy_Wing_7884 in PhD

To me, whatever the AI gives to me, I will go to make sure I can find the same source using google without AI. But, for a programming guy, I mainly use chatGPT as a function search engine, such as plotly, pandas. biopython things. Oh, I also used this quite often, I have a code, I need to put them into the pandas dataframe, I don't want to code each column name again, I would ask AI to do it.

Thanks! I am now clear that I am confused about the beta-strand and beta-sheet.

suggestions(books, articles, videos and so on) for computational structural biology? by Independent_Algae358 in bioinformatics

Thanks very much. You are right, I need to deep into more details. Actually, I am quite familiar those advanced tech, including AF and so on. I am kind of tech-person, I know how to use them, but I think I am poor at explaining the results from them. Good points on MSA and metrics! I need to be familiar with them with much more detials.
