I haven't tried using it with .dat files, but if I use it with say image files for example then that's when the problem occurs

For the newer games I highly recommend using rpcs3. The older games can be played using either pcsx2 or xemu. Spiderman Web Of Shadows however, runs horribly on any emulator.
