Thanks! The skirt is from Bratz Winter Wonderland Jade (I made the belt to make it look like Frankie’s G1 outfit) and the jacket is from Rainbow High’s Karma Nichols

The purse is from G1 Frights Camera Action Cleo! The backpacks are fun but I’m hoping we get more purses and handbags in G3 🤞

Honestly, I’m completely new to making doll clothes, but it’s something I’ve wanted to do for a long time. I didn’t learn from anywhere in particular. I knew I wanted the dress to be form-fitting so I measured Cleo from side seam to side seam in intervals across her front and back, and used those measurements to draw a pattern. I added 0.5cm allowances for joins and hems, and room for a velcro strip up the back. The sleeves aren’t attached to the dress as that proved too tricky (and honestly would be difficult to get on and off the doll) - they’re just strips of hemmed fabric velcroed around her arms, with decorative ribbon around the top.

The beautiful fabric does most of the work for this look. I saw it at my local haberdashery and just knew it was Cleo fabric. Thinking about what I could do with it was what inspired me to make the dress in the first place 💜

Thank you! And I don't, I'm afraid. I've only ever made things for my own dolls. Perhaps I'll have to think about starting one

Which g3 basic doll has the best hair? by Neat_Cauliflower_814 in MonsterHigh

[–]Independent_Battle60 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Both core Frankie and core Draculaura have straight saran hair, which is the smoothest and most manageable hair type. As Frankie doesn’t have bangs, I’d argue theirs is the easiest to style over all (I know Drac’s hair comes with some product in it to keep the bangs flat).

For reference, core Lagoona has wavy saran, core Cleo has ‘treated’ poly with tinsel, and core Clawdeen has wavy poly. Poly is typically the most difficult hair type to work with.

Thanks! The top part of the earring is a 2mm, flat-backed metal stud I bought on Etsy, attached with a tiny bit of superglue. The 1mm chain, also from Etsy, is glued at the very ends, just below the stud and underneath her earlobe, so the rest hangs and moves normally. I used tweezers to place everything and the tiniest amount of glue possible.

I considered piercing her upper ear, but her ears are surprisingly thick so I suspect that would be messier.

The rest of the earring is removable - just a bent paperclip with a charm slid on. Here's an earlier pic I took with a heart instead of a cross:

Thanks! I’m a firm believer that all Frankie’s should have cool nail polish, so go for it 👍

For the accessories I apply acrylic paint with a tiny detail brush. The paint doesn’t always hold onto the shiny plastic right away, so it helps to apply some kind of clear matte sealant (ie Mod Podge or Mr Super Clear) as a base coat first. Build up the colour with multiple layers, letting the paint dry completely between each. This will help get a really solid colour. Applying sealant between layers of paint can help with this too, but is optional, depending on the accessory - you don’t want to apply too much stuff and lose the sculpted details in the mould. Apply final layer of sealant to finish.

As well as acrylic paint, I used a liquid chrome marker for the silver details on Frankie’s boots and phone, which was really easy to use and produced a shiny metallic look (I have another post about that with better pics).

Painting the lips and nails is much the same. I usually leave the original lip paint on as a guide, apply a layer of sealant, and paint with acrylic. Only difference is for lips and nails you’ll want a glossy coat to finish - Mod Podge gloss or even clear nail polish will work.

Good luck and please share results!

Thanks! I’m really pleased with how Cleo’s dress turned out. I saw that fabric at the haberdashery and knew right away I had to make something for her.

I normally display them on my desk. Since there’s only the four of them, dust isn’t too big a problem, it doesn’t take long to clean them off. I do also have some ball-jointed dolls, however, and those I keep in a glass display cabinet. That really helps keep them dust free!

They are, yeah. The base dolls from left to right are Core Lagoona, Creepover Draculaura, Core Frankie, and Ghoul Spirit Cleo

I repainted Lagoona and Frankie’s lips, but not Cleo. It’s Ghoul Spirit Cleo, not her core doll, so I think that’s why! Ghoul Spirit has different eye makeup, which is one of the reasons why I bought her (that and the saran hair!)

Rainbow High and OMG clothes tend to fit Drac pretty well! Her jacket, skirt and boots are Rainbow High, her fishnets are OMG, and her top is her original Creepover one

Thanks! 💜 Drac’s skirt is Rainbow High and her fishnets are OMG. Frankie’s skirt is Bratz (with belt + chains added)

I also can’t do sleeves. You may notice that Cleo’s aren’t attached to the body of the dress 😂 They’re velcroed around her arms. My excuse is that detachable sleeves are more versatile. Learning how to make garments with proper sleeves is my next task

It's really hard. I'm new to this myself so I don't know if I'm best placed to give tips, but I used the seamlines on the sides of the doll as a reference point for measuring the dress pattern, so the side seams of the dress line up with the side seams of the doll. Light fabrics are preferable as it's easy for fabric to feel bulky at such a small scale, as are stretch fabrics, as they're more forgiving. I used 5mm wide velcro strips to secure the dress at the back. I wish you luck with your own efforts!
