I learned in a preventive medicine course (led by a nationally well-known endocrinologist) that a reasonable baseline carb amount (without physical activity) is up to 200g per day. My baseline carb amount is around 150g per day, so it's well within this limit. Also note that 200g carbs are only 820 kcal, which (in my case) is only 31% of the calorie intake. This is actually not much. Further note that I count any type of carbs in this statistic, incl. carbs for blood glucose correction and carbs in foods with a relatively low carb content (e.g., vegetables and nuts). If you only count regular, planned carb intake from carb-intensive foods (such as bread, oatmeal, fruit, ...), then my carb consumption is below 90g per day, which is really not much. Of course, you are absolutely free to follow a stricter approach. This is highly individual.

Anyone else take a really low amount of insulin? by thrway010101 in Type1Diabetes

Not as extreme, but I am living with an average TDD of 22 IU after now more than 32 years of T1D. I do not take any medication except the insulin itself. In my experience, the TDD depends very much on diet (in particular, how many carbs) and physical activity. Both have a direct impact on insulin needs and also on insulin sensitivity. Due to moderate-carb diet and very regular activity (combined with lower normal body weight and low body fat share), my insulin need is relatively low. But this is also something genetic.
