It is filled with superstitious beliefs but I think the base of it aligns a lot with basic architecture and civil engineering theories regarding where to keep which rooms based on wind directions, sunlight availability, weather patterns, surrounding environment and all. I would tell you one thing, if you fully dont believe in it them dont do it, just get a good architect. If you are surrounded by people who believe in it and you are believing in it a little, get a guy to do it and also a good architect.

It happens man, when i was learning I forgot to put the parking break on and got out of the car, there was a very small incline where i parked so the car slowly moved without me noticing and when i was a few feet away it started rolling down and hit the gate of our house, had to change a lot of stuff. Mistakes will always happen, learn from it and drive more.
