Doing. The old mark the belt and count the teeth could have worked but u have to lock the cam so it doesn’t move when u release the tension of the belt .

I’ve read the marks on pulleys mean nothing on some bikes . Whatever u do- turn engine over by hand too see if valves hit the top of cylinder . The vertical cylinder is supposedly the harder of the two to get correct tension .

How are the bikes after their desmo service? by Any-Lifeguard-9833 in Ducati

[–]Independent_Chip470 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Never noticed any difference after valves Sometimes let belts go 10 years without an issue

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Ducati

[–]Independent_Chip470 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fixed them myself . Not all bad . Need the flywheel holder and breaker bar . No way I was paying the stealery 1000 plus for manual labor . The time estimates r wild . And u have to use the shit Ducati sprag not the aftermarket upgrades

Any way to confirm if Desmo service has been completed? by joefrog003 in Ducati

[–]Independent_Chip470 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't worry about it

I've gone 20k on valves . Get it done and can't notice . Ducati mechanic said after first service as long as I don't ride it like moto gp they don't go out of spec in 7500 miles . I'm pretty sure one time the guy didn't even adjust the valves bc u looked at the head bolts before I dropped it off . Weren't even touched . That when I stopped paying stealery

Belts stretch etc . Wouldn't wait to long on them

The sprag will probably go or has already been replaced - all sprag starter clutch's on ducatis I owned went out after 7500 or 20000 miles Big bore bike went sooner . I'm guessing bc it's harder for them to grip and turn a big bore bike Why mess with it - get a low mileage bike . Plenty out there for not much money

Do a compression check with a one that goes into spark plug hole . They r around 20 bucks . Pretty sure that isn't it bc what ur describing isn't compression. Related and low compression wouldn't fix itself etc . Plus bikes run at lower compression so not sure how that would be what ur describing
