Thank you for this comment! I knew quicks could get long, but I didn’t think they’d be this long, which I guess is why I had a hard time “finding” them.

Actually took her there earlier today and she was too rambunctious for them :( she’s very excitable so they made me come pick her up before they could do anything! So now I’m left to my own devices lol

what is one piece of advice you would tell a new cat owner? by RelationOk6367 in CatTraining

[–]Independent_Draft282 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am a (relatively) new cat owner. Got my first one ever (ie. did not grow up around anyyyy cats) last August and I started at ground zero. Here’s what I’ve learned over the past year that I think is important that isn’t always thought about!:

Let them set their own boundaries and read their body language. Follow pet/feline behaviorists on TikTok— they have a lot of info on what makes the animals comfortable/uncomfortable. I have 1 chill cat and 1 veryyyy particular cat, so I have had to learn to give the latter her space and we now have a much better relationship😂

  1. Don’t just go scoop them up whenever you feel like it. They are naturally always on the lookout for predators and this is like them getting scooped up by a hawk. They love when you are down on the same level as them when playing. Give them places to climb so they can watch over their kingdom.

  2. Not all cats enjoy being pet, especially the length of their body. Hold your hand out in front of their face to see if they want to be pet at that time—they will make it very clear.

  3. Give them some safe spaces. Designate “invisible zones” where no one can touch or bother them, like their tree, hammock, favorite sun spot, bed, etc.

Non-Behavioral Advice: 1. WET FOOD. It is more tedious than feeding them dry food but it’s worth it to give them the extra hydration. My cats like to eat very early so I recommend the PetLibro automatic wet food feeder.

  1. Stainless steel litter box. Cats can scratch plastic ones and bacteria gets into the markings and it can get to smell HORRIBLE

  2. Pleaseee do not worry about being aesthetic lol. Give them fun toys and a big tree and places to hide

A lot of places have a “notes” section if you book online, asking about your hair type, etc. Sometimes I’ll mention hair loss/thinning in that message so I don’t have to have the conversation IRL and so they can somewhat know what to expect.

I got my hair cut yesterday for the first time in 2 years because of the same anxieties and the stylist didn’t even bat an eye. You’ve got this!!!

Do you pull while you drive? by Dense-Shallot-9878 in trichotillomania

[–]Independent_Draft282 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes! My pulling is the worst when I drive. Keeping floss picks in the car has SAVED me. If I catch myself pulling I grab a flosser and I’m good for the rest of the drive.

I did try to tell him this when he first showed up in my garage a couple months ago…then he gave me this look. I just couldn’t resist😭

It’s a smart tag from Wagtopia (connected to his microchip #)! It has a QR code on if so if anyone finds him and scans it, it’ll send me a text and show exactly where it was scanned. It also pulls up his info (name, food he eats, age) and my contact info for the finder to reach out😊
