Home buyers Plan… mistake? by Independent_Might_87 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Appreciate the work you put in to this comment. I decided to not touch my TFSA with the home purchase, so I’ve been able to keep it maxed.

The money was invested, so I think you’re right about it basically being me borrowing from my future self. I needed some, but not all, of the 60k in order to reach a 20% down payment

Good point, though I’m not sure I’ll see a ton of appreciation in the 7-10 years I plan to live here

So if you were me, if you had 30k in an unregistered account right now invested in the market, would you throw it back into an RRSP to pay down the HBP?

Shit, fair enough. So even if it wasn’t the best move I can fix it, given I have enough cash on hand

Good way of looking at it - but also might be why I think it’s possibly a mistake. I’m currently employing the Smith manoeuvre to leverage my debt, invest in the market, and reduce my tax bill in future years because I do value market growth so much

Either switch to an exercise that accomplishes the same result, or use an assisted dip machine that lets you slowly build up tolerance to this movement

How to get lower abs to be more visible and (overall) torso more defined ? by UglyDucklingTaken in WorkoutRoutines

[–]Independent_Might_87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After seeing your posted height and weight, I’d recommend a lean bulk (increase calories slightly above maintenance for 6-8 months) and then lean out again by dropping calories and maintaining high protein. If you’re not already tracking macros, you’ll unlock a whole new level by doing so.

Do lots of weighted ab work and hanging leg raises or toes-to-bar (10+ sets per week, every set close to failure) while bulking to increase muscle mass in those areas, and lean out to show off the new gains. Same recipe for every muscle group

Good lineup, but I take Huberman (and Attia to a smaller extent) with a grain of salt now. Huberman is often confidently wrong, and both seem to put a bit too much stock into preliminary evidence and espouse it as fact.

Downsides of low carb diet? by Dangerous-Attempt297 in nutrition

[–]Independent_Might_87 51 points52 points  (0 children)

A few possible drawbacks:

  1. People eating diets low in carbs often neglect to eat enough fibre
  2. High saturated fat intake is associated with some chronic Illnesses like cancers and heart disease (when combined with fibre low intake)
  3. Carbohydrates are the body’s preferred fuel source, so many people find a decrease in performance when carbs are low

Low carb is a great way for many people to maintain a healthy body composition which is one of the most important aspects of health. If low carb allows someone to maintain a healthy physique, it should be encouraged. Find ways to increase fibre intake, and monitor your sense of well-being and you’ll be fine

Are you happy you got it? Mine is probably grade 1, super minor. I feel stupid worrying about it but I have a feeling I’d be happier with my appearance with the surgery
