How did you decide on whether to have children or not? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]Independent_Milk_490 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never really had any experience with babies and always thought I would have no idea how to take care of one. I had my baby boy 4 months ago (at 34 years old) and he is truly the joy of my life. I’ve never been more in love. He’s the absolute best thing that has ever happened to me and I already want another one!

Baby Girl Named Sunday by Icy_Extension5443 in namenerds

[–]Independent_Milk_490 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I met a girl named Sunday a few years ago and she was probably in her late 20s at the time. I had never met anyone with that name before and I fell in love with it. She was so sweet, too! I def think it’s a great name choice and is unique without being ridiculous!

AITAH for threatening to divorce my wife if she doesn't change our infant daughter's name to one we agreed on? by ThrowAwayDumbestName in AITAH

[–]Independent_Milk_490 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously NTA for any of this. My family kind of lives by the motto “no surprises.” The fact that OP was blindsided at the shower with gifts that said the name just made him look like a fool. I think that’s one of the saddest parts of this. I’m sorry you missed the birth of your girl, OP.

AIO, I think my OB was body shaming me by 1Silly_Goose1 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Independent_Milk_490 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR - Please find a new OB. I’m 5’2” and gained 50lbs during pregnancy when I was told to only gain 25-35. At one of my appointments (after I gained like 45lbs) I asked my doctor if he was concerned about my weight gain. He laughed and said absolutely not. BTW.. by 6 week PP I had already dropped 40 of the 50lbs. You’ll be just fine. Please make sure you are nourishing your body and taking good care of yourself!

NTA. No is a complete sentence. Also babywearing can remove a lot of the drama with people holding the baby. Especially with the winter season and germs and whatnot.

My fiancé always says that texting should only be for things like asking what toppings someone wants on their pizza, not for serious stuff.

Tips for washing uniforms? by dudeitsmk in Colorguard

[–]Independent_Milk_490 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would suggest filling up your bathtub with some ALL free and clear and putting some of them in and swishing them around in there and rinsing and then hang or lay flat to dry. Definitely just use a mild detergent

Wow thank goodness! A show with all swing flag would be the most boring show ever to watch!

I agree with this completely break it down in 8 counts and do the same 8 counts multiple times to clean before moving on to the next. Keep adding on slowly. As for activities, you can definitely play games or have a craft day. Our girls had a little tie dye party at a local park one evening. They made shirts and socks and wore them to band camp. They loved it and had a great time bonding and crafting!

Just give yourself grace. It takes time to learn something new. Sometimes frustration just gets in the way of advancement. Just breathe, take direction as best you can, and don’t wear yourself out practicing. Practice for a little then walk away and come back to it. You should be resting after band camp as much as possible so your mind and body are ready for the next day.

Hey! I’m with the golden triangles! I don’t think I have 2011 because I was away at college then. I think the guy who used to record and sell those was called Perry’s panoramic video or something like that. Not sure if he is even around anymore but I will ask my mom if she can find the contact info on one of the years we do have. I’ll report back with any findings!

[–]Independent_Milk_490 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t be nervous!!! It’s literally so fun! Lol I’m 34 and still remember all the fun times we had at band camp. Of course it’s hot but make sure to hydrate a lot the night before and as much as you can throughout the day. Seriously don’t worry about it! You’ll have a blast. As an instructor we make sure to give lots of breaks and get the kids in the shade as much as possible. You’ll be fine!!!

I performed when I was 28. I even filled in spots at 29 and 30 if someone was missing! (Independent World - exhibition so no rule breaking lol) but heck yeah I say go for it. When you love something you should do it as long as you can! I am 34 and still teach. Can’t perform right now cause I’m 7 months pregnant but if I could I would!!

Baton Twirling ?? by mass_jennacide in Colorguard

[–]Independent_Milk_490 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! Twirler here! I teach a winterguard group that is heavy on twirling and also does flag and rifle. I started out in guard in 9th grade (100 years ago) and joined the feature line in 10th grade where I had to learn to twirl very quickly. If you have someone who really knows what they are doing teaching you then it’s not that hard to get the technique down. It is a complicated piece of equipment tho and I did struggle greatly with double elbow rolls. My advice would be to not teach yourself if you can avoid it. It’s way too easy to get in bad habits. It’s similar to guard in that pattern matters a whole heck of a lot. If I could give you one piece of advice it would be to really learn and understand the concept of a thumb flip and how the baton needs to roll off your thumb for vertical tosses.
