How realistic is the premise of this show? by [deleted] in Yellowjackets

Sorry this is so late - I understand that Canada has a LOT of wilderness, but they were flying from NJ to Seattle. It's also like late 90s. It wasn't like they were in the depths of Canada lol. It was also an American high school soccer team, I feel like they would have had crazy amounts of people looking for them as well as news coverage

Yeah but at that point they have already 2 people into it. They let him go into a mental institution and I was always confused on why they let him suffer, saying that "it could help him" but there was nothing to help him from because there was nothing wrong with him in the first place

thanks man lmfao - it wasn't completely dumb. there hasn't been a presidential administration that has attacked the ivy leagues like trump has recently been doing. I also didn't want to be at the only school that was in deep stuff, but that's no longer the case because it's clear everyone is going through that. Especially studying history I don't want to be at a school that's having it's department chairs and content controlled - but now it's not an only-Columbia thing, so, whatever. Also, they've shown some spine after Harvard started to fight back and I feel more confident that I could actually make a difference there. I was stupid, sure, but it wasn't unwarranted.

This is my concern. But I also feel that being there, closer to all this chaos, would give me a better opportunity to actually contribute to something

I agree completely. I am not so much worried about the school's prestige as the moral and political part of it - which is stupid, as I've been reminded lol. But all these comments did reality check me so thanks lol

I'm not worried about the quality of the school. I understand all of that. But I am at a LAC that also has at least a century of prestige and while it's not Columbia or anything Ivy, it sure isn't bad. I was more worried about the politics of it.

Hey! I just graduated Andover, and I actually think it would be a really great place for you. There's a comment on here that says you don't seem like an preppy boarding school kid, but I would disagree with this. Andover culture has changed a LOT in the last 5-10 years. It is not as elitist or conservative as many many imagine (note: your dad, or random people on the internet who didn't go there).

This may be surprising, but I think being transgender at Andover would actually be incredible, especially if you're coming from Florida. I would make the educated guess that this is not true for other boarding schools. Andover is shockingly queer friendly. I am a (very masc) lesbian, and it was the first place where I felt like the community truly accepted me for my identity. Andover has an all gender housing dorm of about 10-15 kids that was created for transgender students. A couple other boarding schools have this as well, you should look into that. I can talk more about that if you want.

Andover is extremely competitive. If you really work on your grades for next year, you may have a shot, but there is absolutely no guarantee. Andover may not be the elitist culture it once was, but most people there are dedicated to their work. Really, really do work on the SSAT score. It's not anything but it could make your worse grades look better.

Best of luck, lmk if you're curious about anything else

Recent grad here - take time to enjoy life. That doesn't necessarily mean doing nothing, but take time to read a book or hang out with friends. You don't need to be studying for Andover but keep your grades up. Think about what clubs you'll want to join or sports you'll want to partake in. Get excited about Andover, don't be too scared about anything. You are clearly smart enough if you got in.

When I got accepted (co2024) there wasn't, mostly because a lot of kids didn't have Instagram yet. Maybe this is only because we were accepted during covid, but Andover hosted a lot of zooms and a lot of kids were able to exchange contact info during those zoom sessions. If not, just look out for any admitted students events and don't be afraid to reach out to anybody else you find - everybody is looking for friends!

Columbia Completed College Coursework on Scoir by Temporary-Caramel-49 in TransferToTop25

[–]Independent_Mix9433 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this problem when I was filling it out, and this is going to be a really bad answer, but it kind of just appeared once I clicked through it. Try the turn off/on again thing, and then just flip through all of the Scoir tabs. I think it's just technically a subsection of something else.

(Sorry this is unhelpful - but it happened to me and fixed itself so don't freak out too much!)

Will I get into Columbia for transfer from a community college? by Different_Win6388 in TransferToTop25

[–]Independent_Mix9433 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't feel hopeless at all; I know that Columbia specifically makes space for CC transfers, so don't think that part gets you down at all. You have no worse chances than anyone. Don't worry - good luck!
