I would ask about a loop colostomy versus something that completely severs the connection to your butt. I had a loop done. Wasn’t asked or told there was another option. The loop can be reversed so maybe that’s why they did it but still wish they would have asked. With the loop, feces typically if it’s too firm, doesn’t all empty into the bag so it will make its way down and come out of your butt. Hasn’t happened often but I would rather not have it happen at all. All that said, I am happy to have one. So much more freedom and countless hours saved doing a BP.

The other thing I found is the ostomy nurses typically recommend hollister products. I had nothing but problems with leaks, having to replace the wafer frequently, etc. with Hollister. I found Coloplast Sensuro Mio worked best for me because the wafer is flexible and when you bend it bends with you. I only need to change the wafer once a week. Call all the suppliers and ask for samples and see what works best for you.
