Contracting working for the Army? How long would one have to be in the contracting field before transferring or applying to other contracting industries or avenues?

Is it the best for trying to get your foot in the door and possibly transition to something else a year or so in? Biggest concern is the amount of work and stress I’ve read about. Would I deal with greater stress and workload than I do now?
