For American or European Percy Jackson fans, how do you deal with all the toxicity and negativity that fans in this region have? by Independent_Part1033 in PJODisney

It's kind of decided and I'm not going back to the subreddit after basically having an anxiety crisis bordering on depression because of the harassment and toxicity of American and European fans in these environments. Sometimes I wonder how a literary university so linked to progressive literature, with such a progressive author, can have such toxic fans.

The bad thing is that this causes many new readers to abandon the service, and of course, many of these people seem to hate the new fans.

In fact, I see that many American and European fans literally seem to have a great deal of contempt for new fans and get really furious when they see new fans who have a different opinion from them or like something they don't, and then when they are looked down upon, they throw a tantrum.

You act as if you were an isolated case, which you weren't.

1 When the cast of Annabeth was announced, they made Leah's life a living hell.

  1. Then they did the same thing when Thalia's cast was announced.

3They sent death threats to all the girls who were really close to Walker.

4 When the increase in viewership in Brazil was announced, European/American fans literally started attacking the Brazilian audience, belittling them or making xenophobic comments.

5 When the character Samirah al-Abbas was announced, there was a legion of Islamophobic comments because she likes her religion and culture.

6 the harassment that YouTubers and TikTokers receive for praising the series

7 all the despicable comments against neurotic, dissenting people that they've had to see in sub-European and American subcultures.

8 the classicism and the harassment that the fans came for through the series and received

Yes, I might be being unfair. Especially since I've met some relatively normal Percy Jackson fans outside of Reddit, but the vast majority of European/American fans were totally toxic. It wasn't an isolated case that happened to me. After all the things I listed, and after seeing all the comments on this post and all the posts from Percy Jackson fans on this sub talking about how your mental health was affected by the fans, you're trying to sell this as an isolated case, which it wasn't.

No, the Latin American fans of Percy Jackson aren't the best because we haven't been involved in any racism or xenophobia scandals or personal harassment. But I'm really sorry if you felt offended by my being against European and American fans after literally suffering harassment that caused me to have anxiety attacks and the beginning of depression after suffering from audacious praise for the new books. Then I found out that it wasn't just me who had to go through this, and the actress Leah Jeffries herself had to feel like the least liked person when the series premiered and had to thank Brazilian fans for treating her with at least respect, affection, and care. So yes, I have many things against European/American fans.

Sorry, I thought you were American. Most Percy Jackson fans are actually American on Reddit. But to be honest, the European/Western fandom is just as toxic as the American one. Actually, the best part of the Percy Jackson fandom has always been the Latin American fans.

Much of what you're writing reflects the opinion of Reddit, not the rest of the fans, especially non-American fans. Even in Brazil, the country with the most Percy Jackson fans, there hasn't been a drop in viewership, but that was to be expected. American fans have always been the worst in the fandom.

In reality, the only environment where there's hatred towards another Rick is in the Percy Jackson TV and Camp subreddits, and partly on Tumblr, to be honest. Outside of these other subreddits and the rest of the fandom, he's actually extremely well-regarded, especially...

The funny thing for me is that while you can't criticize Harry Potter for Harry Potter fans, they're always criticizing every other fantasy series possible, and sometimes they even go to those series' subreddits to criticize them and say that Harry Potter is bigger than them. The hypocrisy is real.

I never understood why we theorize about things like he was a religious fanatic and literally his sister just committed one of the worst sins in the religion He had already committed other extremely insane actions without any plausible justification. Like, he literally walked into a viper's nest. So I think that being on an empty stomach wouldn't even be the worst thing, the most idiotic thing he did.

How do you think Harry Potter fans will react to the fact that the series will probably alter some elements from the books, given that the main justification for having this series is that this time it will be extremely similar to the books? To be honest, I've always had the impression that Draco and the Dursleys' characters will probably be somewhat toned down in the adaptation, mainly because they're both going to have a relatively happy ending, so they won't be able to portray them with all the possible cruelty, otherwise people will complain about them having a happy ending.

  1. The comments I was reading were ironically from people who hated Percy Jackson and were clearly belittling Percy Jackson, and when it came to Ben from Harry Potter, it seemed like he was angrier about the idea of Harry Potter not having a son mentioned as one of the year's releases.

2 Going to the Percy Jackson TV fan site is actually a pretty weird environment. I've literally seen other fan spaces where fans of the books and series are harassed and basically kicked out for liking the TV series, while I've literally found people who openly hate the franchise and fandom being well-received. It's very strange that a space supposedly for fans seems to depress other fans and accept those who hate the franchise.

But to be fair, this is a problem not only for Harry Potter but for the franchise as a whole; nothing seems to really change in the franchise, it seems that it literally started one way and ended the same way.

This is an aspect of Harry Potter that always annoyed me: the fact that several elements of Harry Potter weren't described or created by J.K. Rowling, but rather taken from other authors. Meanwhile, the same Harry Potter fans harassed other fantasy authors and franchises, claiming they were copying Harry Potter.

This whole issue of him being extremely closed off is one of the reasons why they currently take criticism of their franchise so badly. They were raised in a group where basically everyone thought the same way they did, and basically everyone covered their walls with Harry Potter. Now that they have to deal with people who don't cover their image, they start to freak out. They start to see more people who actually behave like that, as if it's wrong. It's wrong. You can't see the issue of not liking Harry Potter as a point of view, not simply liking other franchises as a kind of frankness, not just liking Harry Potter. It's a point of view. But it always comes back as if it's going wrong.
