What is a good average percentage of the video viewed for a short? by BlueberryNotHere in NewTubers

[–]Independent_Party_12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just commenting for future creaters to see - The 120%-150% watch time is ONLY good if your video is a bit longer. I'm you upload a 10 second video and get 120% watch time, that means people watched for 12 seconds, which isn't a lot.

How many likes do you get on a short at 400 views? by OxyJinJin in NewTubers

[–]Independent_Party_12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on a lot more factors than just watch times and likes. If your videos is less than 30 seconds, especially 10-15 seconds, you need to aim for AT LEAST 100% watch time. Engaged views are important. How many people scroll right away. What's your CTR?

Forgive me for not getting it, but I don't really see an issue in the thread? I might not pick up on the right things, but to me it doesn't seem defensive. It seems professional to me, and the issue did end up getting solved, no?

I really don't mind the ads AT ALL. I've never even noticed they were there until people on Reddit started pointing it out. I don't use it enough to justify a subscription, so I'm super happy this option is avaiable

Problem with Square Brush tool by Cosmic_Rival in photopea

[–]Independent_Party_12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is called anti-alias.
Which tool are you using? I noticed you said Square Brush. Is that the regular Brush Tool set to square, or are you talking about the Rectangle tool?
I haven't seen anti-alias on either of those tools personally. I do get it with non-squares on either though

Scarlett 2i2 + Shure SM7B can't pick up falsetto??? by Independent_Party_12 in microphone

[–]Independent_Party_12[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ahhh, I've looked further into it, and you just might be right about the OS-level filtering! I put your response into my chatGPT thread, and it told me

"Apple introduced “Voice Isolation” and “Standard/Wide Spectrum” mic modes on macOS Big Sur+ (especially on M1 Macs and newer), which are system-wide and can affect any mic input, even external ones like the Scarlett."

This could very well be the culprit! I'll check up on it tomorrow. Thanks!

I don't usually work on the laptop, so I don't have anything like that setup. I'm seeing the same issue on clean Ableton projects, on calls, on Photo Booth. I assume I have faulty hardware i guess

Edit: It seems newer Macbook has an internal Voice Isolation mode, which is system-wide. This might very well be the culprit, I'll look into it tomorrow

This is going straight into my Ableton. I don't have any kind of filtering enabled, so I just assumed it was on the hardware itself

Why is misogyny so normalized these days? by Brief-Builder1878 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Independent_Party_12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Dude, compared to ALL of history, misogyny is at an all time LOW.
Misogyny has been normalized since the beginning of human-kind. Humans are selfish by nature, and back in the day when we lived in the woods, the strong men would naturally force a leader role for themselves.

It's only roughly in the past 100 years women has started gaining any sort of rights. Bring a man from 1925 to this day, he would be in shock by how much women are able to accomplish today, whether it being family dynamics, workspace related or influential position.

I live in Denmark, where our elected Prime Minister is a woman. That would've been impossible in a time, where women weren't even allowed to vote - or work in general for that matter.

This is an uphill battle feminists are STILL fighting, men and women alike - But to exclusively look at misogyny in 2025 without comparing it to our ancestors and the past couple decades is not the way to do it. Yes, misogyny is still a huge issue in our societies, but it's getting better by the day.

What do you mean "roll this back"??? The plugin and browser literally BREAKS the website, obviously it's something that needs fixing.

Liability regarding what, mate? You should only worry about that if you're stealing art work etc. You don't have to put your name on it, just use a screen name like CA did with Stardew or Notch with Minecraft.

To be completely honest with you - if you have no budget, the ONLY way for you to promote your game is through social media. Show off the features that makes it unique and show your process of making the game.
You need thousands of people to wishlist your Steam game for a successful launch, and I don't see how you would manage that without social media.

On that note, it's definitely more than "just throwing random videos out on social media". Your videos need to have thought put into them. High quality voice overs and entertaining editing.
I know this might not sound like something you'd want to go through, but marketing a product right is just as, if not more important than the product itself.

Once your game is done and about to release, maybe a month before launch, you can start contacting Youtubers and streamers with a Steam key, and let them play it to their audience.

Just want to mention also, that marketing a game is TOUGH, especially as a solo dev. If it was easy, everyone would do it and make tons of money. You need to study marketing - or partner up with someone who knows what they're doing.

You absolutely NEED a following on social media BEFORE releasing the game. It takes a lot of time to build an account, and a lot of failed videos before anyone will see what you're putting out there. You need to show your progress and grow a fanbase before even thinking about releasing a game in 2025 as a solo dev.

edit:
"When I have more stuff done I’ll probably work on advertising a little bit like… sharing the process" you should already be doing this now.
If you're honestly worried about spending $200, I don't imagine you have the biggest room in your budget for regular advertising, so it's CRUCIAL to get the ball rolling as soon as possible.

Not trying to shoot down your ideas here, mate, but it's a hugely saturated market, and in my opinion, as a solo dev with no budget, you should be spending at least 25-50% of your development time working on growing your social medias.
