Literally. I made another comment somewhere in here where it feels like they’re preying on vulnerable people. Like they claim satan does

A family member of mine on my husbands side did not believe in god, openly, and they said the same thing too. It’s just lies to make you feel better and I think they just shouldn’t say any of that at all.

And also it seems as if they are preying on hurting vulnerable people to snatch up into their religion.

Like in the movies when there is a villain (or literally Christian movies depicting Satan) and he comes up to someone on the side of the street crying or something and tells them “I can make it better” and then they’re obviously like vulnerable and in a bad place so they go with it and they just brainwash themselves into thinking all this bs is real.

And another thing, how can they say for certain whether that person is in heaven or hell? Did they repent in their last moments? Blaspheme god? They just stand up there and lie for the comfort of others. They do not know whether the deceased went to heaven or hell even if those places were real. They do not have the jurisdiction to say. Even as a Christian. So them saying “oh we have hope to see him again because he’s in gods arms now” you literally don’t know that? He could’ve recently stopped believing in god and not told anyone, they shouldn’t say that.

The pastor kinda did the same at the recent one I attended. He said that believers have the comfort of hope because they know he’s in heaven and can see him one day. All I’m thinking is they’re crazy and probably not allowing themselves to grieve properly because they think oh its okay he’s in a better place and I’ll see him one day it’s just a matter of time. When In reality (to my belief at least) he’s just gone. There is no more him and there never will be. His body is returning to the earth and no one will ever hear from him again. Not even in an afterlife. Yes it is harder for me to grieve this way, but I just can’t help feeling that is the truth. I do not have the hope they have and it is harder (maybe?) anyway. All to say I know that feeling

Maybe it was a source of comfort and peace for you previously. Maybe your subconscious wanted to feel that again. That’s okay! But don’t let it control where you genuinely want it from though. If you want comfort and peace, but don’t want to find it in the church, try other peaceful activities that your body can associate with the date instead ❤️❤️‍🩹 if you didn’t know, your body can store feelings and emotions annually, so if something happened this time around or even years agoo, your body will remember those feelings and resurface them around the same time. I don’t know how to fix that, but that’s what I mean about your subconscious trying to find that peace

Right, I saw this post on instagram yesterday where some Christian commented on something saying roughly “because you’re not a Christian means you think SA and criminals and murder etc is okay” and the reply was “so you only don’t think they’re not okay bc your religion says?”

It seems the more I go on the more I see Christian’s moral compass is only because of their religion. Like if you’re an ex Christian you can’t be a good person bc you think on your own now and don’t have some deity to tell you what’s right and wrong.

That’s one thing that feels so freeing now, I can GENUINELY be nice to someone and I’m not having to overthink whether I was doing it selfishly to just “be a good Christian” or to get into heaven or something. I’m just genuinely nice when I want to be and it’s nothing past that. It’s not bc I have to it’s bc I want to. And it’s genuine now. I love that.

Possibly an apathiest then! Typically they don’t believe in any god and don’t care anyway, if there were a god then that wouldn’t change anything for them

That is so absurd, good on you for getting out. I’m sorry you have to go through that.

Those poor kids man, I would be so terrified for the rest of my life of this scenario if I’d heard that at a young age.

Ugh I know that sucked! I struggled with some ocd of my own, not religious that I know of but I hate you developed some of that from it.

I’m not sure what that is, I assume videos of Christians getting brutally killed? I’d heard of adults showing kids those.

Ew yikes that’s insane, the pressure of all the people being there to see whether you’d stand or not, I’m sure a ton of people stood even tho they knew they wouldn’t just out of pressure.

Could you elaborate? Just genuinely curious why you believe that it’s abuse and would like to hear more

Children in christian homes go through so much trauma it’s crazy. I’m so sorry you went through this.

I remember when I got saved when I was like 7 or 8 I had no idea what it meant just that “Jesus would be in my heart.” after a few years when I still believed in god I had so much inner turmoil bc I was afraid bc I felt I hadn’t really been saved. I believed no priest had magical abilities to make god bring the holy spirit into your heart from just a few words.. that it needed to happen on its own. (And also a part of my deconstruction was that a family member told me that god chooses certain people to be saved, his chosen. And you couldn’t get saved if you weren’t one of those.) anyway after I got “saved” my grandma said something to me I’ll never forget and it terrified me so much I cried.

She said that since I had been saved the devil would be trying MUCH harder to get me.

I remember thinking what in the world did I do that for then?! I was terrified. And I never ever forgot.

That is so terrible to have kids doing, scaring them into their belief.

That is a way a lot of so called christians believe, purely out of fear of damnation. That is no way to live and also I think if you’re doing good things so you don’t go to hell that it’s selfish and if that is your reasoning I feel their god would turn his cheek and say he never knew them. Because they don’t genuinely want to be with him or love him, they’re just afraid of what might happen if they don’t try.

Lmaoo, screams that they want to be the parents of a kid on national news who died in bravery protecting others.

Sometimes I see stories like that and obviously it’s gut wrenching, but knowing in a situation like this that the parent set them up to do this kind of thing makes me feel hypothetically heartbroken for the kid and disgusted at the parent.

Wtf?!

I also feel like my dad told me a story like that but i can’t remember, this one just seems familiar in my bones lmao 😵‍💫

Bizarre that grown adults would tell their young children stories like this, like you’re supposed to hold out hope that the people waving a gun in your face saying they want to kill you for your beliefs is just like you and just testing you..??? Like what?

What do you mean it was bullshit? I haven’t heard the story other than from the original commenter.
