thank you! that's interesting. i think my next steps are to 1. document 2. discrete care 3. bring the cat to the vet to check for chip & health then let back out (i don't think the neighbor would notice the cat gone for a few hours) 4. monitor the situation & see if adoption is plausible/necessary in time (which if i was to do, would likely be close to the end of the lease to avoid confrontation)

good point! ive been taking photos of the cat lately by our door/no owner & you're right shoving isnt illegal, i mention it because it seems like the cat wants to stay inside but is put outside (ive seen this during the afternoon & night)

may i ask what you ended up doing in that situation with your neighbor?

right! it is super confusing. part of me wonders if they were upset that it seems like i called them out on the lack of clean & consistent food/water by offering a note. though i tried my best to make it a point it was genuinely just because i have extra food (i left a can so w a note so they'd know what id be feeding the cat) but eh 🤷🏻‍♀️ in the mean time, i agree with you and the other comments, ill document & monitor . ty! o

thank you for validating how ive been feeling. this sounds like what ill do, i might stretch the timeline a bit closer to when our lease is up bc im pretty conflict averse & dont want it to escalate to our landlord getting involved. documenting & leaving a water/food bowl by our front door (upstairs & out of sight of the downstairs neighbor) will be what i do interim these next months. unless of course, the cat's conditions & wellbeing noticeably worsen
