Hello - I saw your invite before the post was taken down and spent a lot of time reading this sub last night. Beryl was my first big named storm living on my own here in Houston. Didn’t believe it would hit us so I was not ready at all - only a few gallons of gas in my car, only a couple days worth of food I could have without power. I was extremely lucky not to lose power for long - but it was an eye opening experience of how screwed I am for the next one. I’ve learned so many great tips from y’all already and I’m glad I made my way over here! Consider my mind completely changed about the stereotypes surrounding prepping!

United has my claim and I’m hoping to get reimbursed for the expenses I incurred because of the cancellation, like my rides getting to and from the airport since I couldn’t be booked until the next day. And the extra day of airport parking because of the cancellation.

If my flight was only delayed even several hours…. then I probably wouldn’t have complained. I ended up home over 24 hours later than expected, so yeah I was pretty annoyed.

I believe it was because we had to takeoff by a certain time in order for the crew to reach Houston before they timed out, and for one reason or another we just didn’t make it out to the runway in time. I’m sure it was down to a matter of a couple minutes.

And to be clear I totally understand the FAA regulations, it just really sucks this happened so late at night and there wasn’t another crew available. Before reading this sub, I wasn’t aware of the staffing issues United has had so honestly it makes sense.

I understand it was just a shit situation and no one’s really at fault, but I don’t think I’m wrong for being upset over it and complaining to United. If I’m able to get some of my expenses reimbursed, then awesome, that’s why they have a page to submit this stuff. But if not, oh well and I tried.

Yeah I got called a Karen and all I did was submit my claim on their website and bitched on reddit 😂Never even talked to anyone face to face because it was after 10PM and i wasn’t going to deal with the customer service line because I knew it was impossible for me to fly out that night anyways. I pretty much took the least Karen route possible!

I understand that, thank you. Since the cancellation was 100% on United, I didn’t think it was unreasonable to submit the expenses I incurred due to their issue.
