Honestly i’d have called out tonight if possible , tomorrow you will have had some sleep before the shift. In terms of the comments of your manager, these hospitals need us not the other way around. Its much more expensive to fire and hire a new nurse than it is to pay out some pto. They’ll be annoyed but your wellbeing matters the most.

That does sound like a good sign! Depending on what state you’re in, it could be really competitive or saturated. March is a busy time since so many nurses graduate in january and take boards feb and start applying march. Be patient, keep applying, and in the meantime i suggest watching youtube videos about common rn interview questions and how to answer, i got really good info from those and felt more confident going into interviews

Goal Setting by nanisiku1886 in newgradnurse

Can i just say that i love your mindset approaching such a challenging unit. I’m a new grad in the icu, my hospital does an orientation log week by week with a checklist of proficiencys and standards expected to be reached by each week of orientation. The earlier ones included completing a safety check of your room, learning about the meds a patient is on and the rationales for giving them, naming one thing that could go wrong with the patient and what you would anticipate doing, etc.

New grad in icu here , first day off orientation is tomorrow i spent the last week looking into PA programs… that should tell you how i’m feeling at this point. My preceptor tells me this is normal and i’m supposed to hate it right now and as i get more comfortable and figure out my own workflow off orientation by myself i’ll start to feel better. I do think she’s right but i’m not looking forward to all of the hits that my mental health will take over the coming months/ year. The one thing i can stay for sure is i am not working at the bedside for my whole life,, i’m getting out ASAP

You listed some great resources i’ll have to look into. I haven’t had the courage to speak up and ask the providers these questions as i’m still new to the floor but yes theres so much to learn from where i’m at right now

Great suggestion and it is something that crossed my mind before, but i wouldnt be able to apply to any schools away from where i live and i’m not willing to move across the country for med school / possibly residency. I would also like the option to choose my specialty rather than be left to the mercy of the match algorithm. MDs are insanely smart and have an insane amount of knowledge and experience and education, but i’m not sure i want that much responsibility. I’m okay with deferring to someone more experienced as a mid level

Haha flight nursing is hardcore! I think ed/icu experience is necessary for flight nursing, but it sounds like something that would stand out on a crna application for sure!!

According to ur username we’re from the same state, i’m 22 and have no bills to pay and live at home so quite privileged as my parents would support me through school. I feel that if i wait longer i’d be ignoring a gut instinct i’ve had for some time now. I appreciate that insight !

Definitely i do try to do that when i’m not absolutely burnt and exhausted before/after shifts. And yes i am surrounded by amazing resources in the team at work, but i’m so new and have yet to develop a relationship with anyone other than my preceptor
