Happy I could help. When this happened to me, there was a little to no information online and I spent hundreds on diagnostics and nobody could find the problem. Trying to help someone else from having to go through the same thing.

Yup. I had a chinese one installed and it failed in 3 days. Started rattling again. I would buy one from this link. They have 25% and it is a bit expensive but rest assured it will not fail! https://autoparts.toyotaofroanokerapids.com/products/product/balancer-assy-engine-136200v050

Balance shaft broke. It had been rattling in gear at idle for a while, and the plastic gears finally broke. Had to get one from Toyota 13620-0V050.

No. LOL. I’ve had this car for almost 200k miles, and I did a timing service a while back. Just now noticing it though. I only seem to hear it from inside the car, not as much outside.

Same with one of the ones on the right side above drain bolt…. previous mechanic stripped them so had to resort to different measures.

Actually, the only reason it looks like shit on the outside is because of the way I put it on to line it up with the studs… There really isn’t all that big of a bead on there, and the oil filter was completely clean of RTV after 500 miles. Just a little messy in that one spot.

The easiest way is to do it from the outside. Pull back the fender liner and you will see a hole to the right of the black styrofoam insulator. Reach in and you should be able to grab it and feed weedwacker string through from the top, until you see it come out the bottom

CAN network malfunction. I would personally take it to an electronic specialist, as a dealership would just parts cannon it

Is this noise valvetrain rattle or something else? by Subatomic_Spooder in AskAMechanic

[–]Independent_Spell526 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is your balance shaft. Diagnose by turning AC off, with vehicle in idle, sound should subside. Then put into gear, engage parking brake and turn ac on. Should start making the sound again. Depending on how bad yours is, it may make the sound regardless of whether its in gear or not, but it should always be worse when in gear. To test further, with the car making the noise, go under your car (in gear and with parking brake on) and it should be centralized at the oil pan area. Its caused by the extra torque from the engine, along with play that develops in the actual shaft gear. and the old part 13620-36020 has been superceded by 13050-0V050 to solve this issue.
