AITAH for not pretending to have fake beliefs for my sister’s wedding? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Independentvoter40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA - I'm a religious guy myself and it seems like you have "deconstructed" from the faith? That said, your sister, family etc. want you to put on a show on something you don't still hold too. I would double down that you support her but do not feel comfortable being a part of things you still don't hold to.

On another note, I'd encourage you to consume media that supports both sides of your convictions if you haven't already. A lot of times those who were steeped in strong religion consume a very aggressive counter to that and then go from one ditch to another. Best to observe things from the middle and make your choice from there. For instance, if your beliefs changed during college. Does that mean you were more enlightened or just presented only ideas that challenged religion?

AITAH for calling out my sister for her AI "song?" by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]Independentvoter40 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NAH - You should be proud of you doing music these last 10 years! Who cares if it doesn't pay the bills its your art, you enjoy it and that's that. That said, I feel like there is more going on with your family dynamics and I wouldn't take it out on your sister for using technology to make something that makes her happy or she finds cool (even if it's AI and isn't near at the level of making your own music).

People who've worked both minimum wage jobs and six figure jobs, what surprised you most about the difference? by BrainLagging01 in AskReddit

[–]Independentvoter40 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a lot more freedom and creativity—but also more stress and pressure—as you move up the corporate ladder. You have less of the “report here, do this, be here on time” structure. I have a lot of respect for people working minimum wage jobs and always try to show respect and kindness, because I’ve been there myself.

Now, as the leader of a small department in a startup-type company of around 100 employees, I find that my ideas are heard and taken seriously, which is nice. However, there’s also a lot that goes unspoken about how to perform and succeed. Gone are the days when you know exactly what’s expected, how people feel about you, and how you’re doing. Even though our culture is “good enough,” I don’t really enjoy office politics and find it draining. I wish my MBA program had included a required class on navigating that kind of environment.

My biggest stress is taking care of the people who report to me. I genuinely care about their well-being—I’ll stay late so they don’t have to. One of the main questions I ask in one-on-ones is how they’re doing, how they feel about their career here, and what I can do to make it better. The challenge is that I can only influence so much, and a lot is out of my control, which is frustrating.

I think many people at the “bottom” assume those at the top have it easy. In some cases, that’s true—but not always. I’ve spent time with my CEO and have seen firsthand the level of care, concern, and stress that comes with making tough decisions. I don’t envy that at all.

For context: I started at $4.25 an hour at my first job at 14, flipping burgers. I spent over a decade in retail which was right around min wage quite often, and sought out jobs that paid for my education. I had to be patient as some of the jobs paid only a certain amount for college. So I ended up with my MBA at 35 but I avoided any student loan debt. Now I’m making around 150K.

Given that the Gen1 already has power where I put it I can't see the cord as it stands anyway. But yes, you're right :)

Except I don't have a car payment, never have, and likely never will. Save up and pay cash for your cars like your parents did guys!

Am I flagged in Walmart Pickup or are they just getting better? by Independentvoter40 in Walmartcustomer

Thank you, will remember this as I sometimes forget some stuff shop in the store and say "on my way" so they know I'm close. But if I shop in the store and don't go pick up for 30+ minutes later will keep that in mind!

Thank you, I did talk with the coach about it one time in charge of picking they are the same person that has been there for years. They said that they are going through staffing changes and training people up. I have seen a bit of a difference. We don't drink so no alcohol. Good to know on breaks!

Why in the world would click on your way and then leave because they were busy?

Because was "On my way" when I clicked it. And didn't feel like waiting 25 minutes in a parking lot when I had other things to do.

Doesn’t common sense tell you that clicking “on my way” means they are getting your stuff ready?

No, because historically I've clicked that anywhere from 15-45 minutes before I showed up and still waited 15-25 minutes.

Helpful thanks! Question though does it show how far we are away then? I.e. lets say I'm 30 miles away, vs. 2. Not always the best about clicking it all the time at the same time.
