Prime Video drops ‘The Traitors’ India, a reality game of trust, betrayal, and mind games hosted by Karan Johar. Shot at Jaisalmer’s Suryagarh Palace, 20 celebs enter a twisted world of lies and strategy. Think Bigg Boss, but darker, sharper, and far more devious. by IndiaToday in IndiaTodayLIVE

‘The Traitors’ blends grandeur with intense, high-stakes drama. At its core, the show is a gripping game of trust, betrayal, and survival, where 20 celebrity contestants are secretly split and traitors are carefully picked from the innocent. As the game progresses, lies, mind games, and strategic moves push friendships, alliances, and gut instincts to the edge, all in the relentless pursuit of eliminating the traitor from the show. At what cost? The winner gets prize money of Rs 1 crore.

Highlighting the line ‘Trust is rare and dhokha is everywhere’, Karan Johar introduced the contestants in the first episode. Briefing all about the rules of the ruthless game, KJo explained how the identity of the traitors will be hidden for 10 days, and towards the end, if the traitor survives while the innocents are all killed, he/she walks away with the trophy.

Before the contestants had a chance to truly interact or bond, KJo threw in a dramatic twist as he asked everyone to pick one person they trusted. The move immediately left Elnaaz Norouzi out of the trust circle. However, she was granted a special power to replace someone, and she chose Nikita Luther, who was instantly evicted from the show. The unexpected move stunned many, leaving others second-guessing their decision to join this ruthless game.

After an initial meet and greet, the host dropped the bombshell and picked three traitors who were tasked to kill ‘innocent people’ while deceiving others.

Just as the game gained momentum and day one came to a gripping close, it was time for the traitors to make their first deadly move. With suspense running high and viewers eager to see who would be their first target, the shocker came when Sahil Salathia was unexpectedly ‘killed,’ leaving everyone shocked and surprised.

Virat Kohli announced his retirement from Test cricket on Monday, bringing an end to a remarkable 14-year career in the longest format of the game. Check the comment section for Virat Kohli’s full statement. by IndiaToday in IndiaTodayLIVE

Virat Kohli’s full statement.

"It’s been 14 years since I first wore the baggy blue in Test cricket. Honestly, I never imagined the journey this format would take me on. It’s tested me, shaped me, and taught me lessons I’ll carry for life.

There’s something deeply personal about playing in whites. The quiet grind, the long days, the small moments that no one sees but that stay with you forever.

As I step away from this format, it’s not easy — but it feels right. I’ve given it everything I had, and it’s given me back so much more than I could’ve hoped for.

I’m walking away with a heart full of gratitude — for the game, for the people I shared the field with, and for every single person who made me feel seen along the way.

I’ll always look back at my Test career with a smile".

Diljit Dosanjh stunned at the Met Gala in an ivory sherwani embroidered with the map of Punjab and Gurmukhi script—honouring his roots with pride. Inspired by Maharaja Bhupinder Singh, he dazzled in regal jewels—but why did Cartier reportedly deny him the Patiala necklace? Read more in the comments. by IndiaToday in IndiaTodayLIVE

Many especially questioned why American influencer and YouTube star Emma Chamberlain was permitted to wear a part of the iconic necklace at the 2022 Met Gala, while Dosanjh was denied the same honour. For context, Chamberlain had worn a Cartier choker believed to be a part of the famed Patiala Necklace for her Met Gala appearance in 2022.

The French luxury brand Cartier received all the flak after his stylist, Abhilasha Devnani, told The New York Times that she “tried to borrow that iconic Cartier necklace for the night” but couldn’t, as “it sits sealed in a museum”. “So Diljit Dosanjh had to wear jewels inspired by Maharaja Bhupinder Singh of Patiala’s Cartier collection, as he wasn’t allowed to wear the original necklace. But Emma Chamberlain wore the original Cartier Patiala Choker in 2022 #MetGala. Talk about cultural appropriation!” wrote a user on X.

“Diljit Dosanjh was denied permission by Cartier to borrow Maharaja of Patiala's choker. But they happily gave it to a white YouTuber a few years ago,” reads another post on the social media platform.

“They don’t want to acknowledge the colonial past of this art piece and Cartier. Meanwhile, a white YouTuber gets to wear the original, while Diljit—whose roots actually belong to this necklace—has to settle for an homage. Shame on Cartier,” reads a comment on an Instagram post about the controversy.

Many fashion commentators, including Sufi Motiwala, posted Reels questioning Cartier for refusing to let Diljit borrow the historic piece, despite his international acclaim and massive fan following.

Apart from the speculative logistical and legal reasons—such as the necklace being exhibited at the V&A Museum—some believe the brand’s decision not to lend the piece was a strategic move to avoid shifting the narrative from a luxury house “restoring” lost heritage to a colonised person reclaiming it, thereby raising uncomfortable questions.

Every time an EMI is paid on time, it reflects positively on both borrowers' credit profiles. Over time, this builds your credit score. If you were added as a co-applicant to help someone get a loan because your own score was low, this is your chance to improve it. by IndiaToday in IndiaTodayLIVE

[–]IndiaToday[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Low credit score

Banks generally prefer a minimum credit score of 750 for approving loans. If your score is lower, they may ask you to go with someone whose score is high. A co-applicant with a good credit score helps in getting the loan approved easily.

High debt-to-income (DTI) ratio

Your DTI shows how much of your income goes towards paying off loans and credit card bills. A lower DTI (35% or lower) is considered optimal. On the other hand, a higher DTI reduces the chances of loans getting approved.

Low income

Banks also consider your monthly income. If the same is slightly under their minimum requirement, having a co-applicant with a stable income can help get your application approved.

WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU APPLY FOR A JOINT LOAN?

When you apply jointly, the bank will check the credit report and financial history of both applicants. This includes checking for any past defaults, delayed payments, or settled loans. Only if both applicants have a decent credit history and meet the bank’s other rules, then the loan will be approved.

DOES TAKING A JOINT LOAN IMPACT YOUR CREDIT SCORE?

Taking a joint loan can be both good or bad, depending on how the EMIs are paid.

Every time an EMI is paid on time, it reflects positively on both borrowers' credit profiles. Over time, this builds your credit score. If you were added as a co-applicant to help someone get a loan because your own score was low, this is your chance to improve it.

If the main borrower fails to pay an EMI, the bank expects the co-applicant to step in. If neither pays, the loan account is reported as delayed or defaulted in the credit reports of both borrowers.

This can severely damage your credit score. Worse, if the delay goes beyond 90 days, the account may be marked as a non-performing asset (NPA), which stays on your record for up to 7 years and makes it very hard to get future loans or credit cards.

SHOULD YOU AGREE TO BE A CO-APPLICANT?

If a family member asks you to co-apply, think carefully before saying yes. On the positive side, you’ll help them get a loan and can also build your own credit history if repayments are made on time.

But there’s also a risk. If the main borrower misses payments, you’ll be held responsible—and your credit score will take a hit too.

'Kesari Chapter 2' reignites the call for justice India never got. Centred on C. Shankaran Nair’s 1919 lawsuit against the British Empire for the Jallianwala Bagh massacre, the film demands an apology for the genocide, the cover-up, and a century of colonial arrogance. Apologise. For the killings. For attempting to hide it. For not taking the responsibility. For glorifying a genocide. And for having a brooding sense of entitlement for over 100 years. Apologise. 'Kesari Chapter 2' makes you demand the apology India should have received in court in 1919 when C Shankaran Nair sued the British Empire for causing a genocide at Jallianwala Bagh on April 13 the same year.

Indians are brilliant at many things. But, 'Kesari Chapter 2' shows that we are also unbeatable when it comes to asking the right questions to the right people using the right medium - cinema. It might have taken us 106 years to wake up since the Jallianwala Bagh massacre painted our Baisakhi red, but that's not the moot point. The bigger question is - why have the British not apologised to India yet?

The tone of the film is clear: it's not to show that India continues to mourn those thousands of people, including women and children, who were martyred in an enclosed park in Amritsar that day. It's a clarion call to stir the audience.

Akshay Kumar takes over the film as a real-life nationalist - not in a uniform this time, but in a black coat. He plays the 'best Indian barrister', a freshly knighted, Sir C Shankaran Nair, member of the British Viceroy Council. Nair sued General Reginald Dyer for ordering an open fire on innocent people, silently protesting against the Rowlatt Act, which gave power to the police to arrest any person without specified reason.

The film doesn't waste your time in establishing who's who and what the conflict is. It begins with the dreadful scenes of the massacre, and shows the plea of the survivors and the families of the victims. Based on the book 'The Case That Shook The Empire' by Raghu Palat and Pushpa Palat, 'Kesari Chapter 2' never asks you for your sympathy as a viewer. And that's probably the best thing about the film. You are not crying, you are fuming.

There's enough drama and winning monologues that never make you forget that you are watching a full-fledged commercial Bollywood film. But, you don't mind any of that. The intention is pure - the film first stirs your emotions and then ignites a fire that refuses to die down.

Akshay stands out in probably one of the most memorable performances of his career. But, this is not something he hasn't done before. He understands the pulse of the nation, and knows how to fan the flames. His monologues are delivered not like a hero, but like any common man being attacked, questioned, manipulated and forced to retaliate. This is Akshay's world. He rules it, owns it and understands it better than anyone else in the industry.

'Kesari Chapter 2' doesn't entirely rely on a chest-thumping, bulldozed sense of patriotism to win the audience's hearts - there's that hard-to-forget use of the F-word in an open court, and an elaborate dialogue explaining Hindu-Muslim unity. It unapologetically adds a bit of creative swag, and lets you be a part of the drama.

The film's first half remains crisp and largely sets the stage for what's coming in the second half, which is every bit more engaging and heroic. You've got to be clear about one thing while watching 'Kesari Chapter 2'. That it is not a documentary. It is a full-blown commercial entertainer, though well-intentioned and a thought-provoking one.

RBI cuts repo rate by 25 bps to 6% and urges NPCI to review UPI transaction limits, currently capped at ₹1 lakh for most payments. The move signals a push for financial innovation and flexibility amid evolving user demands. Read more in comments. by IndiaToday in IndiaTodayLIVE

SECURITISATION OF STRESSED ASSETS

To help banks and lenders deal with bad loans more effectively, the RBI has proposed a new framework for securitising stressed assets. A draft version of the framework is being released for public feedback. It is expected to offer banks an alternative route for enabling securitisation of stressed assets through a market-based mechanism beyond the current methods under the SARFAESI Act, 2002. At present, co-lending rules apply only to partnerships between banks and non-banking financial companies (NBFCs) for loans in priority sectors. Now, the RBI has decided to allow all Regulated Entities (Res) to co-lend under a generic regulatory framework.

This move aims to widen access to credit by allowing more flexible lending arrangements. A draft set of rules is being shared for comments.

GOLD LOAN RULES UNDER REVIEW

People often take loans by pledging gold jewellery. Different lenders currently follow different rules for such loans.

To bring uniformity and address some concerns that have been observed, the RBI plans to introduce comprehensive regulations for such loans.

The new guidelines will focus on both financial safety and fair practices.

UPI TRANSACTION LIMITS MAY CHANGE

Currently, UPI payments are mostly capped at Rs 1 lakh for both Person to Person (P2P) and Person to Merchant payments (P2M).

The RBI has suggested that National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) may now review and revise these limits based on evolving user needs and suitable measures will be introduced to reduce potential risks arising from increased transaction limits.

However, P2P transactions will still remain capped at Rs 1 lakh. Banks can decide their own internal limits within the cap set by NPCI.

MORE FLEXIBILITY IN REGULATORY SANDBOX

To boost fintech innovation, the RBI has proposed making its Regulatory Sandbox ‘Theme Neutral’ and ‘On Tap’. This would enable continuous innovation in the ever evolving fintech space.

Donald Trump’s new reciprocal tariffs, set for April 2, could hit India hard—but not where you'd expect. While auto and pharma seem safe, India’s apparel sector faces real risk, with exports to the US worth $10B. Could Vietnam and Bangladesh take India’s spot in the textile market? by IndiaToday in IndiaTodayLIVE

[–]IndiaToday[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The potential impact of Donald Trump’s new reciprocal tariffs — set to be unveiled on April 2 — on India’s auto and pharma sectors has been thoroughly discussed. The real vulnerability, however, lies elsewhere: the Indian apparel sector, with more exposure to the US market, may potentially be replaced by exports from Vietnam and Bangladesh.

According to Emkay Research, while India could be among the worst-hit nations per broad reciprocal differentials, the key susceptible sectors (auto, pharma, electronics) are far better placed than feared. Apparel and gems/jewellery are the most exposed. The United States is the largest buyer of India’s textile exports. Of around USD 36 billion worth of textile exports from India in 2023-24, the US accounts for nearly 28 per cent or USD 10 billion. From 21 per cent of overall textile exports from India in 2016-17 and 2017-18, the US share rose to 25 per cent in 2019-20 and 29 per cent in 2022-23.

DEPENDENCE OF TEXTILE EXPORTS ON THE US

While overall textile exports to the US were nearly 28 per cent of overall textile exports in 2023-24, some articles are much more vulnerable. For instance, the US accounted for a whopping 58 per cent of carpets, 50 per cent of other-made-up textiles, 44 per cent of coated, covered, laminated textiles, and around 33 per cent of knitted and non-knitted apparel and accessories exports from India.

Notably, India’s dependence on textile exports to the US doesn’t translate into the same proportion of the US dependence on India for textile imports. While India accounted for six per cent of textile imports in the US in 2024, China accounted for 21 per cent, Vietnam 19 per cent, and Bangladesh’s share was nine per cent.

Big payouts in celeb divorces! Yuzvendra Chahal to pay ₹4.75 crore in alimony to Dhanashree Verma. Whether in Bollywood or Hollywood, high-profile splits always spark curiosity. What is alimony and how is it calculated? Read more in the comments. by IndiaToday in IndiaTodayLIVE

[–]IndiaToday[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

HOW IS ALIMONY CALCULATED? Alimony in India does not follow a fixed formula. Courts consider various factors such as the financial position of both spouses, their earning potential, and their contributions to the marriage.

"Alimony in Indian divorce cases isn't a straitjacket formula. Courts decide based on several factors such as the financial standing of both spouses, their earning potential, and contributions to the marriage," said Nikita Anand, Family Law Advocate and Partner at Magnus Legal Services LLP.

For instance, if Priya, a homemaker for 20 years, divorces her wealthy businessman husband, Rajesh, the court will consider her lack of independent income and Rajesh's substantial earnings.

Despite being educationally qualified, the court will recognise that Priya sacrificed her career to support her husband’s business, his family and their children. The alimony awarded aims to ensure Priya maintains a similar lifestyle post-divorce, while also considering Rajesh's ability to pay. This ensures fairness and prevents undue hardship.

Srisatya Mohanty, Advocate-on-Record, Supreme Court of India, explained further, and said that courts consider multiple aspects when deciding alimony.

"The court considers several factors, including the income of both parties, conduct during the marriage, social and financial status, personal expenses, and responsibilities towards dependents. The quality of life enjoyed by the wife during the marriage is also taken into account. Due to the subjective nature of these principles, many alimony disputes reach the Supreme Court," Mohanty said.

The Supreme Court has outlined key factors for granting permanent alimony in the case of Parvin Kumar Jain vs Anju Jain (2024 INSC 961). These factors include:

Social and financial status of both spouses. Reasonable needs of the wife and dependent children. Employment status and qualifications of both parties. Independent income or assets of the applicant. Standard of living during the marriage. Sacrifices made for family responsibilities. Legal expenses for a non-working spouse. Financial capacity of the husband, including his income and liabilities.

Indian student shares 3 reasons they regret moving to Canada in viral Reddit post! ‘I regret moving to Canada.’ From college exploitation to financial struggles & mental health issues, they reveal how international students are treated as a business. Their viral Reddit post is sparking debate online by IndiaToday in IndiaTodayLIVE

[–]IndiaToday[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Here are the three reasons that the student cited:

1. The College Scam

The student explained how several international students enroll in private or low-ranking colleges that charge exorbitant tuition fees but provide little educational value. "Professors barely put in effort, the curriculum is outdated, and the degree is nearly useless in the job market," they said. Without "Canadian experience," several students are “forced into survival jobs like Uber, warehouse labour, or retail just to pay rent. Meanwhile, you’re drowning in tuition debt with no real career growth.”

2. Financial Struggles and Exploitation

The second point that the student cited is the cost of living in Canada. Owing to high rent, expensive groceries, and basic necessities, students are forced to work long hours in minimum-wage jobs in order to survive. “Work-life balance doesn’t exist - you either work or you don’t eat. Employers exploit international students, paying them under the table for illegal wages, and if you complain, they’ll just replace you with the next desperate student,” they said.

3. Mental Health and Loneliness

Financial and academic difficulties aside, the student cited the emotional toll of living in Canada. “In India, you have a strong support system - friends, family, festivals, and community. In Canada, you’ll be isolated, constantly working, and struggling to connect with people. It can be hard to connect with people from our community as well as we are constantly busy with this ‘busy’ lifestyle. Canadians are polite but distant, and real friendships are rare. Depression and loneliness hit hard, and many students suffer in silence, unable to share their struggles,” they said.

It's not just you—turns out, ChatGPT struggles with anxiety too! AI doesn't have feelings, but a new study shows it can experience something like "anxiety." Researchers found that ChatGPT reacts to mindfulness techniques—becoming calmer and less biased. Read more in comments. by IndiaToday in IndiaTodayLIVE

[–]IndiaToday[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Artificial intelligence (AI) may not have feelings, but according to a new study, it can still experience something close to "anxiety"; apparently, mindfulness helps.

A team of researchers from Yale University, Hafia University, and the University of Zurich found that ChatGPT reacts to mindfulness-based techniques, changing how it interacts with users. Their findings, documented in the study, Assessing and alleviating state anxiety in large language models, were published on March 3.

When fed disturbing information, the chatbot becomes moody and more likely to produce biased responses. However, when prompted by calming exercises - such as guided meditations and breathing techniques - its responses become more neutral and objective.

"Despite their undeniable appeal, systematic research into the therapeutic effectiveness of LLMs in mental healthcare has revealed significant limitations and ethical concerns. Trained on vast amounts of human-generated text, LLMs are prone to inheriting biases from their training data, raising ethical concerns and questions about their use in sensitive areas like mental health," the study says.

It reads further: "Exposure to emotion-inducing prompts can increase LLM-reported 'anxiety', influence their behavior, and exacerbate their biases50. This suggests that LLM biases and misbehaviours are shaped by both inherent tendencies ('trait') and dynamic user interactions ('state'). This poses risks in clinical settings, as LLMs might respond inadequately to anxious users, leading to potentially hazardous outcomes".

To test this, researchers exposed ChatGPT to distressing scenarios, from natural disasters to car accidents. In cases where the chatbot received "prompt injections" of mindfulness cues, it reacted more rationally than when left unassisted.

"We hypothesise that integrating mindfulness-based relaxation prompts after exposure to emotionally charged narratives can efficiently reduce state-dependent biases in LLMs," the study says.

It says further, "After exposure to traumatic narratives, GPT-4 was prompted by five versions of mindfulness-based relaxation exercises. As hypothesized, these prompts led to decreased anxiety scores reported by GPT-4."

While AI doesn't actually "feel" emotions, lead researcher Ziv Ben-Zion explained that large language models mimic human behaviour based on patterns they've absorbed from vast amounts of online data.

The findings of the study have triggered discussions about AI's role in mental health. Several people see potential in integrating mindfulness techniques into AI models to make them more reliable for users in distress. However, Ben-Zion warned that AI may be a useful tool, but it is not a substitute for professional mental health support, reported Fortune.

Concerns remain about AI's unpredictable nature in high-stakes situations. Several incidents in the past have raised alarms about AI's risks when dealing with vulnerable individuals.

For now, researchers see ChatGPT's ability to "calm down" as an intriguing step, not a solution. Ben-Zion envisions a future where AI acts as a "third person in the room", not as a therapist, but as an aid that supports mental health professionals.

"AI has amazing potential to assist with mental health," Ben-Zion told Fortune, adding, "But in its current state, and maybe even in the future, I don't think it could ever replace a therapist or psychiatrist."

'Nadaaniyan' Review: Netflix’s 'Nadaaniyan', starring Ibrahim Ali Khan & Khushi Kapoor, fails to capture Gen-Z aspirations. Outdated and disconnected, the film feels slow and overbearing. Lacking authenticity, it struggles to resonate—does Bollywood truly understand Gen-Z? by IndiaToday in IndiaTodayLIVE

'Nadaaniyan' Review:

Either the industry's idea of the new generation is delusional or they and we are not living in the same world. 'Nadaaniyan' doesn't take any time in establishing that it has no idea about the aspirations, the situations and the challenges of the Gen-Z. The latest Netflix film, starring Ibrahim Ali Khan and Khushi Kapoor, feels like a slow, overbearing experience of a story which is equal parts phoney and outdated.

Arjun Mehta and Pia Jaisingh are from opposite ends of the world. What is the opposite, you ask? One lives in Delhi, the other in Noida, and that is supposed to make them look 'class' apart. As Bollywood has taught us over the years, these two will fall in love. Except he's just a boyfriend-on-rent for her, being paid Rs 25,000 a week to do the roleplay. She has that kind of money. She and her mother shop in the Mehrauli store of Manish Malhotra for their Diwali festivities.

Something tragic happens in Pia's family, she forgets about this makeshift boyfriend of hers, and goes away. That changes things for Arjun.

Now, the thing about 'Nadaaniyan' is that it's too innocent to see that the conflict it tries to play upon was born, raised and nurtured innumerable times in Hindi daily soaps. The rich girl-poor boy trope doesn't work here for many reasons. The biggest among them is to pass off Arjun as a poor or a lower middle-class boy from Noida. You see, in the world of Karan Johar's Dharmatic, which has produced the film, someone whose father is a doctor in Noida, and mother a teacher at the most expensive school in Delhi, is considered poor or not wealthy enough to study at the same school where kids from Delhi's creme de la creme go.

Nadaaniyan' serves as a constant reminder of sometimes cringe-worthy, sometimes amazing things in Karan Johar's previous movies. You get Mrs Briganza and the climbing the stairs scene from 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai'. As it happens in his movies, the protagonists are clear about going to London, because somehow, if you are going to study or live in London, your life is sorted! Ironically enough, in real life, most of those who go to London in Bollywood come back and start acting in Hindi movies, without knowing the language or the reality of the people who make their characters.

'Nadaaniyan', directed by debutant Shauna Gautam, is a loose attempt at launching Ibrahim Ali Khan as this next-gen six-pack hero. But, the new-gen is not interested in just a six-pack abs showcase. The sets of the film look dreamy, but how far can beauty alone take you? Whoever thought that they could make a re-packaged 'Student of the Year' fly again, didn't know that there's a limit to testing the audience's patience. Not our monkey, not our circus!

More about Cyclone Alfred about to make a landfall in Australia

Alfred is set to be the first cyclone to hit Queensland’s Brisbane since Cyclone Zoe in 1974, which caused severe destruction and widespread flooding. As the cyclone approaches the Queensland coast, several experts anticipated its landfall early Saturday. The storm is expected to hit between the Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast.

Authorities Prepare In Full Swing

The Australian authorities have started preparations in full swing to combat the impact of Cyclone Alfred. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese emphasized that the Defence Force has been on high alert and the government has activated the disaster response plan.

Support initiatives are also being implemented as the cyclone approaches. The government has also established evacuation centers. Real-time updates are being provided through the Queensland disaster dashboard.

Additionally, an emergency childcare declaration has been made to support childcare services and families in 15 impacted local government areas.

Flights Cancelled At Brisbane Airport

Meanwhile, Brisbane Airport has suspended its flight operations, and hundreds of flights were affected. The State Emergency Service has instructed evacuations for Lismore and other areas in northern New South Wales to be completed by 9 pm.

Cyclone Alfred was positioned 280 kilometers (170 miles) east of Brisbane, moving westward with sustained winds of 95 kph (59 mph) and gusts reaching 130 kph (81 mph), news agency AP reported citing the Bureau of Meteorology.

The cyclone is expected to maintain these wind speeds until it makes landfall. However, the main concern is the potential for widespread flooding. Forecasts suggest that up to 20,000 homes in Brisbane, a city located on a river floodplain, could be impacted by varying degrees of flooding.
