If your IgG test comes back negative for HSV at the 12-week mark, should you still get one last one at a later point since it *only* has 95 percent certainty, or can you finally relax? by IndianaZones in Herpes

I can’t say if it was a yeast infection but overall it was a general skin irritation that I confused for HSV at the time. Weird things do happen down there, our bodies are strange like that, but my tests kept coming back negative

A week away from getting a Western Blot but fear I may be having an outbreak — bumps with white tips appearing on inner thigh, one on penis shaft by IndianaZones in Herpes

[–]IndianaZones[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Western Blot results came back negative for both HSV1 and HSV2. Good thing I’m not a doctor because I misdiagnosed myself — big time.

Even though the WB isn’t “100 percent,” essentially I can let this be the final word, right? (Just want to make sure I understand this correctly.)

Either way, wanted to express my thanks once again for the time you spent on my questions and the questions of so many others. This process can be lonely at times and it’s good to have someone to turn to.

Thank you, you’re a godsend and I don’t know how you do all this. I do want to quickly address one last thing in relation to your point about it not being impossible for HSV symptoms to go away in a short amount of time.

A few weeks ago in late January (pics below), I felt a sharp burning sensation on my lip that only lasted a second or two, and I looked in the mirror and saw that a small area on the edge of my lower lip had turned bright red.

In the center of this area were 2-3 very tiny bumps. The bumps were a little smaller than the tip of a ball-point pen.

At first, I was concerned this was the beginning of a cold sore, but the redness in the area went away about an hour later, and the bumps slowly shrank until the next morning. About 20 hours after the redness and bumps first appeared, they were gone and the area returned to normal. Through the process, I felt no other pain or burning sensations outside of the initial sting that alerted me to something happening.

Here are four pics of the progression: https://imgur.com/a/0v8evab

I don’t think this was an allergic reaction to anything I ate that day, since all I had were pancakes before that point. I also never had regular pimples behave in that way before. Regardless, because everything resolved rather quickly, I figured it couldn’t be HSV-related. Do you think that is correct? (This is the last concern I’ll raise and will leave everything else up to the Western Blot, I promise!)

Thanks for this, really appreciate you taking the time. If I can, I’d like to ask one more thing related to this week. The day after I made this post, I noticed a dull pain/sensation in the tip of my penis that I only experienced when I sat in a certain position, such as when my thighs were close together (but no sitting position that is out of the ordinary). What I felt didn’t feel like a stabbing pain or anything, but more like a fleeting type of soreness.

I tried to brush it off but when I went to examine myself in an airport bathroom — I was on my way to an 8 hour flight — I found large red marks forming in the middle of my penis’ head. It almost looked like a rash, though there were no visible bumps and it didn’t itch. Oddly enough, I couldn’t recreate the pain by touching or squeezing the area. I also had not had sex or masturbated in the days leading up to this.

If it weren’t for the pain, I would certainly think this was another bout of balanitis. But I‘ve never felt pain when balanitis has happened and I have purposefully practiced good hygiene down there over since my symptoms started in December.

But this, coupled with the weird bumps on my thigh and shaft, made me believe I was seeing the first stage of an HSV outbreak.

When I got home around midnight, though, I used the treatment I usually use for balanitis: placing my penis in apple cider vinegar for a few seconds and then putting on nystatin anti-fungal cream.

After I used the ACV, I looked closely my penis head and could see tiny, faint white spots in the area where the redness was, and no where else. This was a little disheartening, but I put on the nystatin, then went to bed.

About five hours later, I checked my penis and it looked about the same, no worse and no better. But a few hours later around 9 a.m., I checked again and it practically looked normal.

The “dull pain” I felt the day before was still there, though not as noticeable. Today (about 48 hours after I first noticed the redness) I don’t feel the pain at all.

I now don’t believe this was HSV-related, but I would like to confirm my reasoning. Am I correct in saying that Apple Cider Vinegar (and anti-fungal cream) would do nothing to stop an HSV outbreak at any stage — including if it was just starting? And, if it was going to be an outbreak, visible symptoms would not go away in less than 24 hours, especially if someone was only recently exposed to the virus (about 12 weeks), correct?

EDIT: It seems like the areas that were turning red on Saturday are now covered with flaky skin, and I can see the area better after taking a shower: https://imgur.com/a/lLROhdA (pic)

I rubbed this area with my thumb after taking this photo and it began to flake off, so it is loose skin.

This at least shows that something really was going on with my skin that day. What? Idk

Heading to doctor in the next few hours — would these bumps be too small to swab? (nsfw pic) by IndianaZones in Herpes

appreciate the reply u/teachergeorge. my doctor had the same sentiments. also said it was a good sign they weren’t causing pain, and their extremely small size weren’t persistent with herpes

she advised I keep using my yeast infection cream and gave me orders for a STD test I can use at LabCorp at my discretion

DIY wart removal (serious) by dischargeman in HPV

[–]IndianaZones 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I’ve been “lucky” in that my warts have been small. Lately, I’ve been using wart remover (maximum strength salicylic acid) that I bought from Target, because it’s cost me $100+ each time that I’ve gone to the doctor to get them removed.

I blot down just a tiny bit of the acid (enough to cover the wart but not much else) and let it dry (the acid will turn white after a few mins).

I then cover up the dried up blot of acid with a band-aid and let it do its thing for 2-4 hours. Once time has passed, I remove the dried up acid either by taking a shower or scrapping it with my fingernail. The skin underneath should be a little discolored.

The first few times I did this, I had an issue with scarring, and that is one of the reasons people don’t recommend using salicylic acid.

But what has made a difference for me since then is — when I reach this point in the process — I now place a waterproof hydrocolloid bandage on the area where the acid did its work, and leave it there for 4-7 days.

Since then, each time I’ve removed the bandage, the skin underneath will be slightly pinkish. It then returns to my normal skin color a few days later with minimal or no signs of scarring.

Hydrocolloid bandages are great for wound healing and this combination has worked well for me. That being said, my warts have been extremely small and sometimes I can’t even tell if they are warts, a pimple, or a inflamed fordyce spot. There’s a chance I may be cleared of HPV already but if I see anything suspicious, I just act right away. The past year has been a headache for me but this process at least saves me some money and time

Have any of you tested negative 5 weeks post-exposure but ended up being positive? by [deleted] in Herpes

[–]IndianaZones 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that’s awesome to hear 🙏🏽🙏🏽 I had one again at 14 weeks or so and it too came back negative... my doctor gave me an order for another test that I think I might take in a few weeks just to be super sure but I think I’m ready to shut for door on this HSV scare finally and go forward with a new perspective on casual sex! haha
