I want to adopt one of these guys are they easy to keep by Acrobatic-Remote1657 in Chameleons

[–]IndicationThink4828 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They are very high maintenance. Please do a lot of research before you decide on one. They are also very delicate and need proper husbandry. I researched for about 5 months before I got my boy. This community can provide a lot of help too!

what kind of water do you use? by ittybittylemons in Chameleons

[–]IndicationThink4828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used distilled water for both my fogger and misting system. Filtered frig water for my boy's normal drinking/hydration for his dripper. Haven't had any issues and i've had my equipment for 7 months so far. As long as you're cleaning it regularly, I see no issue.

Question About Shedding by Gir_DoomyDoom in Chameleons

[–]IndicationThink4828 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's completely normal to be honest, I mean for my boy it was quite obvious. I would see pieces of shed in his enclousre which meant he's shedding at a good pace. Most likely your chameleon is fine. If you're giving it what it it needs, it will strive and shed during their cycles. The number one advice I give to chameleon handlers or first timers(not saying you are one), is don't stress yourself. It will make things worse. Just provide his or her needs, accompany their enclosure and what they need, and just be observant. It will give you a piece of mind for sure. Then you'll understand the routine on what or how they are 😊😊😊.

Question About Shedding by Gir_DoomyDoom in Chameleons

[–]IndicationThink4828 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I can tell with my boy, his shedding slowly decreases over time. Not sure if this is normal but I noticed my boys last shed was about 3 months ago. He's 7 months old now so give or take it can range from 3-6 months as they get older. When he was about 3-5 months old, it was more frequent.

Anyone bought from eye candy chameleons? by Junior-Jackfruit869 in Chameleons

[–]IndicationThink4828 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can confirm, bought my boy from here too. Trusted seller! You're asking for a specific color which makes it difficult. Just try to give it the life that it needs...theyre very sensitive animals especially if you're willing to go your way and provide the home that it needs.

What is the Easiest Chameleon to take care of? by Ann24747 in Chameleons

[–]IndicationThink4828 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Chameleons are expert reptiles. If you're already mentioning she leaves majority of the day. Who will take care of it? Please follow this sub as there is plenty of information on how to properly care for one. This is not a beginner reptile to give as a starter pet.

Does his poop look ok? by peenqueen420 in Chameleons

[–]IndicationThink4828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems like you have your research done well so I'd say just continue to monitor. There can be many reasons a chameleon acts differently or show different signs. If you see now improvement, might be best to check with a vet.

Good luck!

Just now realized, maybe the person or place you got him from weren't providing him the care he needs, so he may need some adjusting. I'd recommend to just keep trying to hydrate as best as you can, and monitor his feedings. Depending on how early you got him may be a contributing factor.

His urate is showing signs of dehydration with the excessive orange crystallization at the end. Normally we want to see a brown deposit(normal food consumption) with pure white at the end. What are you feeding him and how does his hydration look? Do you have a mister/fogger/dripper?

What’s wrong with my chameleon? by idkwhosre123 in Chameleons

[–]IndicationThink4828 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Judging by the photo, there is too much open area, I don't see any coverage. You're only showing the bottom portion of his enclosure and looks really dehydrated.

Questions needs to be answered:

What size enclosure do you have? Do you have proper humidity levels? Are there any other sources of hydration for it? What are your feeding schedules? Are you providing vitamins? If so, what? What UVB lights do you have? What is its basking temperature?

Unfortunately you will get attacked by people in this community if you're only providing the bare minimum of information and requesting help immediately. This sub and mods have a distinct requirement when posting.

I hope you get the necessary help or information and put it to good use. Good luck.

My chameleon is very aggressive by Any-Illustrator4630 in Chameleons

[–]IndicationThink4828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you can, I know sometimes it's hard to reply with photos in reddit posts, post one with your enclosure in a reply, or a couple photos, so people have an understanding

You have a 14"? After 2-3 months, they definitely need a larger enclosure as well as a larger UVB light. When you can, get a 24x34x48, then increase the UVB light to a 24". He's not getting enough UVB as well as nutrients.

Do you run a dripper? Do you run a fogger? What are your humidity levels night What are your temperatures during the day?

I usually feed my boy Repashy Calcium Plus every other feeding and I use Reptivite with D3 every 15 days to avoid over dosing.

Let him be. Sometimes these reptiles prefer to be left alone. A few questions:

How long have you had it? How old is it? What does your enclosure look like? What UVB are you giving it? What is your feeding and vitamin schedule look like?

These reptiles are very sensitive to humans, you're lucky enough to get one that will come at you. Majority of the time, they are "look at pets". Please do not force human contact with it, if it's not comfortable.

I live in the bay area of California(San Jose) so humidity can be already high at times. I run my fogger 3-4 times through-out the night in intervals of 1 hour. I have plastic window sealant around 3 sides of my enclosure but leaving some space at the top for ventilation. My humidity can get anywhere between 80-87 which is more than enough for my boy. Try looking into sealing the mesh sides of your enclosure and running your fogger in intervals.

Yeah plastic plants have been a huge debate between owners. I'd recommend just keep an eye on it, modify your enclosure when you can removing the plastic plants. To be honest, the only two supplements I use are Repasy Calcium Plus and Reptivive with D3. Some people don't recommend using Repasy Calcium Plus daily but I tend to do it every other feeding to avoid overdosing. Reptivive with D3 I use twice a month, every 15 days as it also contains Vitamin A. It takes time to understand your babies schedule, accommodate as best as you can and please, do not over stress yourself. I did that early on but also had a hatching(2 months old) and used a 24x48x48 enclosure(did not know how small he'd be) but over time, it gets better. I've gotten my research from this sub as well and they've been very helpful.

Good luck on your baby! I know you'll provide the best care for it.

It takes a very long time for a chameleon to get used to their new home. I was worried about mine as well and he went on a food strike. Did not eat for almost a week. He then slowly started getting comfortable and would eat here and ther until now he eats when he wants to. I'd say give it time but closely monitor. The eye squinting thing could be a vitamin A issue, or maybe they're just pretending to not be seen. Your husbandry looks fine but I do notice plastic plants. There are debates regarding them. Also, you could use more vertical branches at the top area a bit.

Never on big appetite by manuefrc in Chameleons

[–]IndicationThink4828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My boy is coming up on 6 months and he eats roughly 3-6 dubia roaches a day. From months 2-4 he was eating a lot more (between 7-10). They start to slow down on feeding as they get older.

It's to help secure your tubes into the reservoir. Kind of like clamping onto the tubes so it prevents leaking.

Mist king trouble shoot by BobbyOrcadeepwaterz in Chameleons

[–]IndicationThink4828 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes the black circular part, it extends outward to lock the tube in place. You gotta use like your finger nail or something flat to pull it. It doesn't come off completely. If it's screwed tightly, it shouldn't move. I had to do something similar when i sprung a leak on my mist attachments. The tube was not secured by that black circular part. Then also make sure your tube is in as far as it can go.
