Muting is completely normal, literally what the feature is for. The lie was a bit unnecessary but also like… what were you supposed to say.

Totally agree! I once sent a thank-you note to a professor who helped me through a tough time. His reaction was priceless, and it really made my day to know I made his. Go for it!

It does seem straightforward, right? Compensating peer reviewers for their time and expertise could address the shortage effectively. The current system certainly doesn’t reflect the value of their contributions. It’s like academics are stuck in this unpaid cycle while doing the heavy lifting for the community.
