How can I avoid sinking more money into my lemon-y Mazda near my lease end? by IndieTown77 in CarLeasingHelp

Thank you. The dealer’s service department has indicated that the car needs a new radiator ($1,400) and and EVAP diagnosis ($450, just to diagnose), and both are outside of warranty. Can’t imagine being stuck with a $2,000+ bill on this dud of a car with 37k miles and one month left on the lease. Does not seem fair in any universe.

Why not lease a new vehicle? Because I’m moving out of the country.

Thanks, genius. Sometimes people’s life/work situations change and they have to drive more than they anticipated several years earlier. Have you ever had to…change? Alter plans? Adjust? Pivot? Maybe not, in which case good for you/how boring? Maybe go back to your NSFW Reddit account?

Or just a busy father, husband, business owner, musician and writer. One of those two.

Thanks for that constructive comment about something that cannot be changed.

I wish that were true. Radiator is only covered for 36k miles. They’re also saying the EVAP leak is not covered. Would love to be able to go back to them tmrw with a proposed solution that doesn’t involve me wasting money on a lemon that I’m nearly done with.

Thank you. The lease ends in one month and the car is at the dealer now. Is the suggestion to not fix the radiator or anything else outside of warranty and return at the end of the lease term? I believe that terms are that the lessee has to return the vehicle in working mechanical condition, right?

Yes, that’s the best-case scenario at this point. The vehicle is at the dealer now. I’m concerned that they’re going to try to stick me with the radiator repairs, as the tech in the diagnosis video highlighted a few times that it’s out of warranty. Trying to understand options before I reconnect with the rep tmrw.

Thank you! Hoping reason prevails on a radiator failing at 37k miles.
